What started as an assignment in school, turned into a successful stationery business for entrepreneur, Gabi Cox. When moving on to graduate school, she realized that people were still interested in purchasing her stationery. Instead of staying within the fashion industry, in which she went to school for, Gabi decided to work for herself full-time, instead of another company. In November of 2014, she launched her company called Chroma Stationery. Her business revolves around providing colour-loving branded and personalised stationery that truly represents the personality of both individuals and businesses. In order to fund this new business she had just started, she used the platform of Kickstarter to raise the money for her first 1,000 notebooks. This company that she created is a B2C and also a B2B and sells to 28 different countries around the world. Gabi Cox uses her knowledge and experience from school and her internships, such as with Glamour, Easy Living, and British Vogue to reach people across social media and promote her business. She also sends samples of her products to social media influencers to promote her company. One of the biggest turning points, she described was when Youtube star Zoella showed of one of her diaries in a video.
Gabi made a difficult decision that many entrepreneurs may not have the guts to do – abandon her degree studies! That can be a hard choice because so much work and time is spent learning a specific industry and to not use that knowledge can feel like a waste. I’m sure she’s very happy with her decision to pursue meeting quality, fashionable paper needs. Keep up the good work Gabi!
In today’s economy, it is a huge undertaking to start and run your own business, this takes a couragous effort on her part.
Abandoning studies like this to pursue an endeavor shows a true passion for the project.
