Millie Bobby Brown is known specifically for her successful role in the popular Netflix TV series: Stranger Things that premiered in 2016. At just 11 years old, Millie became one of the most popular actresses for her time along with her co- stars such as Sadie Sink. After receiving her first award at 13 years old, it was only the beginning of her career.
Millie announced her cosmetics brand in 2019, florence by mills that was targeted towards pre-teens and teenaged girls who are entering the world of makeup. She was inspired to enter this industry since she had been in the makeup chair since the age of 9 years old and could not find anything she liked putting on her face. Due to her experience, she felt that she needed to create a line of products that would look and feel good on the skin.
Millie kick started her brand with skincare ranging from face masks to makeup like creme blushes and lip glosses. It was an instant hit for Millie especially for only being 15 years old when she first launched. As time went on, she released only a few new products, and she wasn’t gaining as much attention as she did in the beginning. Especially while maintain her life as an actress with movies like Enola Holmes. Eventually, Millie released both her clothing line and coffee in the first half of this year.
I think it’s pretty crazy to think how an 11-year-old can be so influential and so successful. Then using that fame to catapult her beauty line “Florence by mills” is a very effective strategy plan. This was extremely personal as she herself had been in the chair getting makeup all the time, so this was a field that she had expertise in. I feel like her versatility and ability to play her cards right is super inspirational and appears to be a very effective concept which others can learn from.
It’s interesting how she discovered the problem of not being able to find anything she liked putting on her face at the age of 9 and solving that problem by creating her own cosmetics brand. This is a great example of finding a way to solve a problem.
This was really thought provoking, thank you. I see some ethical issues with preteen beauty products, but Millie’s ingenuity and tenacity are commendable. It is really interesting to me how someone so young created a business so fruitful. She capitalized on her personal experiences as an actress and social media presence to catapult her brand into the light. Very impressive.
