on March 29, 2013, Lani Lazzari – an 18 year old entrepreneur – delivered an idea to the Sharks on the TV show “Shark Tank” that exploded into a huge success. She had started a humble company creating and selling a skin care product made of completely organic minerals that would clear up an assortment of skin related issues including eczema and psoriasis. Lani was successful in her business prior to pitching her incredible creation to the Sharks, yet her success skyrocketed once Mark Cuban agreed to invest $100,000 into her company for 33% of her sales. Her profits went from $50,000 in sales to an unbelievable multi-million dollar number in just one year!
After being asked what his most successful investment was since starting on the TV show “Shark Tank,” Mark Cuban immediately responded that the Simple Sugars Scrub was the best investment he has ever made. There are so many orders coming in for Lani’s innovative product that she had to completely restructure her small business in order to produce more scrubs in an efficient manner.
Lani’s story in very unique in that she is only 18 years old and is making millions of dollars a year off of one product that has solved a problem that many products claim they can solve but rarely do. Growing up with sever eczema herself, she had an incredible drive to eliminate her unfortunate problem and did so with hard work, research, and determination. Lani wanted to help everybody who suffers from this issue and made her scrub available to those who need it.
Lani’s success is very inspirational and shows that anybody can be an entrepreneur if they are willing to put in the effort. Nothing in life comes easily and solving a problem for oneself doesn’t mean that we can’t share our innovative ideas with the world.
What a small world! I’ve actually met Lani and her mother before, when her business was just starting! I met them at a Giant Eagle Market District store near Pittsburgh, PA when her product was first sold there. I had no idea that this simple business idea would turn into a multi-million dollar company. Great job Lani! People today are looking for organic and natural skin products, and Simple Sugars was able to meet this demand, while remaining affordable. Thanks for sharing!
