Ask any millennial what they use to listen or stream music, and I bet most will say Spotify. Spotify was founded by Martin Lorentzon and Daniel Ek, current CEO, in 2006. Now I know this is a while ago, but Spotify wasn’t launched in the US until July of 2011. This streaming service has pushed the forefront of how people listen to music. Spotify has pulled users away from iTunes as you can stream unlimited songs by only having to listen to an ad every few songs, unless you pay for premium. Apple came out with their own Apple Music to compete in the music streaming industry. Where is Pandora now, currently sitting behind Spotify in monthly users by 20 million users.
Spotify uses its unique way of streaming music by offering you to have unlimited skips and music to listen to as long as you are connected to the internet. Pandora on the other hand, uses a “radio station” to play similar music to the artist that you selected. Being able to fully select what you want to listen to has put Spotify in front in the music streaming industry. As we move forward, it will be interesting to see what else Spotify or other streaming services have to offer.
It was revolutionary in the way that you could pick what songs you wished to play when pandora and iheartradio had radio stations. You could make playlists, listen to specific songs, and also listen to stations. It was a cool advancement
I have enjoyed this way of listening to music. I have used Apple music for close to a year and it helps you connect with new music whenever you want! Spotify has revolutionized the music business and how people listen to music!
Spotiy truely did revolutionize the way people listen to music. They figured out how to differentiate and make a better/cheaper platform of making music accessible to the masses. Now I think they are doing really well with their premium service, a lot of people are willing to pay to get the full experience!
As a recent convert from Pandora to Spotify, I can attest to all these things. At first, I was challenged to select specific albums and artists but I have now come to enjoy the ease and mass customization of Spotify. I predict Spotify will remain popular for years to come, until the latest and greatest music service comes out!
The fact that almost anyone can navigate it (given how user friendly it is), and the massive selection of music, with almost nothing that you can’t find; Spotify really capitalized on the idea of streaming and making music available to anyone, anywhere at anytime.
This was a great idea. Music is extremely important considering almost everywhere throughout the world it is very important to people. This idea just gave people around the world a better opportunity to listen to music. Because music is so big around the world, the audience that would be targeted was extremely large for this idea, and I believe that is why it is very successful.
