The famous entrepreneur, Adam D’Angelo, rose to fame by leaving Facebook as the chief technology office and starting Quora, an online knowledge market based in California.
This question and answer based website is edited and organized by the user community that has grown strong.
This website helped millions of people by sticking to its slogan, “The best answer to any question.”
He is driven by helping the world become more knowledgeable and has definitely succeeded.
By following through on an idea never done truly well before, he exhibits his entrepreneurial thinking very well.
He innovated by coming up with new ideas for his website. Successfully starting a multi million dollar business from nothing is definitely a principle I have learned from.
He is truly exemplary in every sense of the word.
I wonder if it, in the end, was worth it to leave an incredibly stable job to pursue a completely unstable venture
For some people, stability is boring! You can read up on why he left here: http://www.businessinsider.com/what-i-learned-from-being-cto-of-facebook-why-i-started-quora-and-this-is-why-gen-y-kicks-ass-at-entrepreneurship-2010-9. Basically, he felt like he wasn’t needed anymore because the business was running itself. Some people are just wired to live in a fast-pace, high-energy environement, and that’s what a start-up is all about. It may be crazy to leave behind a stable job, but it’s crazier for a person to not do what he loves. I’m just interested in how Quora is actually making money.
Definitely a great company considering the service it provides. Although it may have seemed extremely risky leaving Facebook as the CTO, Adam made a great decision now that Quora is successful!
