Babur Jahid is an Afghanistan national. He lived there for 16 years and witnessed the transition into the democratic government and the fall of the Taliban. After this, he was forced into being a refugee in Pakistan for almost 8 years. He later returned to Afghanistan to attend the most prestigious school, the International School of Kabul. He went to that school and then later moved to the United States for schooling because of his excellent performance in school. He now resides in Ottawa, Canada continuing is education still . It was through all of these experiences and all that he saw that but the passion for public health on his heart.
Jahid’s organization, YouSeeClear, is meant to help bring eye care, glasses, and other eye related things to the people in Afghanistan. Studies show that 400,000 people are blind, 1.5 million people are visually impaired, and 25,000 people lose vision in at least one eye every year. Though this effects both men and women it is more strongly shown in women. These stats are devastating to hear. They suffer with this conditions and don’t even know there is a way to change it or make it better. So, this organization will do vison testing and bring glasses to the people in homeland.
Jahid has been through a lot in his short 21 years on this earth and all he wants to do is being public health to his homeland along with other war torn countries. He wants to be the voice that the people done have. So, YouSeeClear is just a small step in the right direction to start changing the things that need to be changed.
Babur Jahid’s new mission is to become the Afghanistan’s Minster of Public Health. I have no doubt that he will one day accomplish this.
Jahid’s story is so cool especially since he used something he went through towards a positive change in the world. I love his story and idea so much because he is right in saying that eye care isn’t available in every place around the world. Having contacts and glasses myself, I could never imagine not have the recourses to wear them daily. Love this article!
What an amazing topic and Jahid’s story is so inspiring to U.S citizens as well as other internationals. I believe some of us may take our opportunities for good health care for granted, and this article helps us to realize that there are some countries where people don’t have the opportunities to get glasses or eye care. Very well-written and I enjoyed reading the post.
