In ninth grade, Benjamin Stern began developing a unique solution to reduce plastic waste out of his love for nature in his biology class. He started to create eco-friendly personal care products that consist of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, and shaving cream. They are single-use packets that do not use any plastic packaging and dissolve in water. This invention led to the creation of his sustainable startup called Nohbo. An additional benefit is that Nohbo drops do not contain harsh chemicals, sulfates, or parabens. Benjamin pitched his product on Shark Tank, leading to Mark Cuban investing in his idea. Many companies have partnered with Nohbo after its success and innovative ideas. Benjamin is still the CEO of his company and works on new innovations to reduce plastic pollution.
Nohbo’s mission states, “At our core we’re a material science company innovating on ways to solve the plastic waste problem.”
This is a great idea. Lately I have read about how when we recycle something, it does not always get recycled and ends up in a landfill anyway. This is very frustrating to me as there is SO much plastic! I have purchased chips in a compostable bag and love that I can basically compost all the packaging from Chipotle, so would be super excited if one day the packaging for things like dish soap or shampoo could easily disintegrate or turn into compost:-)
What a cool idea! I love the idea of progressing beyond recycling and just decreasing plastic use to begin with. And it’s always such a pain when you use too much shampoo or conditioner and have to try to cram it back into the bottle–single-use “packets” (without the packaging) would help with portion control in a handy way as well!
Interesting post! Benjamin Stern’s idea for Nohbo is such a smart way to tackle plastic waste while creating useful products. It’s impressive how he turned his biology project into a business and even got Mark Cuban to invest. His work shows how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand to make a real impact.
This is a really cool story to read about! In ninth grade being able to come up with an idea like this is sensational! Benjamin Stern is truly an impressive story of what taking a problem and solving it can do to your life and many others. I thought it was really neat that he started working on this in his biology class, I know that’s the last thing I would be doing. The fact that his business Nohbo was pitched by him on shark tank and Mark Cuban invested in it, that’s how I know this is a great and successful business. The way he innovates is very impressive and it is just nice to see people like Benjamin succeed! Great job on this post!
