My young entrepreneur is 23 year old Benjamin Stern, who is Founder and CEO of the company Nohbo. His company is unique because he is in the CPG market but his product is completely biodegradable. His goal is to eliminate plastic in the industry. This is what drove him to the begin the company when he was only 16 years old. His Grandmother was also a strong proponent of his company and since her passing he has only done greater things for the company. Stern also appeared on Shark Tank when he was a freshman in high school and landed a deal with Mark Cuban. He is innovating because nobody to this point has successfully created biodegradable shampoo and other showering products. As a 16 year old this young man has many entrepreneurial traits but the biggest one is that he identified a problem and is trying to solve it. Although the over use of plastic is not a new problem, it is still a major problem and had yet to be approached in the CPG market until Stern decided to take it on with his idea. He also has some serious grit, after he got his deal with Mark Cuban he got sales for his product but he ran into a serious issue. His product was faulty and ultimately was bad, but he never quit or gave up, he didn’t stop working until 2 years later he found the solution and got it right. Now he has a multi million dollar deal with a hotel company in the UK and is raising more founding for the production and perfection of his product. This inspires me because Stern was able to have success at a young age but didn’t settle for a faulty product. He worked hard to make his product better and never gave up, that is very inspiring.
Many people would have given up, especially since the improved product took two years to make! I respect his vision for plastic-free shampoo, and he has the determination to carry it out. He also must have made a memorable pitch on Shark Tank, too, because I still remember the product every now and then since I saw the episode!
I too a, inspired by this story. I would have assumed that he gave up once he discovered the product was faulty. However, he took 2 years to finally get it right. That is some amazing dedication I wish I had. It is eye-opening to see how he created a product to sole a need and then perfect the product to get it to where it is today.
