Airbnb has revolutionized two industries with the creation of their services: travel and the hotel industry. Before their service was offered, you had a few options when it came to traveling comfortably. You could stay with a friend/relative, stay in a hotel, or a motel. Brian Chesky took the initiative in creating a service where you can feel at home while traveling by literally renting someone’s home. At the age of 27, Brian Chesky acted as any entrepreneur would and sought to solve that very problem. His business has now surpassed 44.8 million people using Airbnb and 800,000 listings. He has single-handedly revolutionized an industry by identifying a serious hole in an industry and acting on it.
I personally love the innovation and entrepreneurial creativity shown by Mr. Chesky. He saw a problem and immediately moved to solve it. I have used Airbnb several times over the last two years and have been incredibly impressed with it’s simplicity and usefulness. I also like his promotion of a young perspective on life. He stated that, “childlike curiosity and wonder…[is] probably the most important trait you can have, especially as an entrepreneur.” Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed his passion when it comes to positively affecting the mindset of the youth and entrepreneurial minds everywhere.
Airbnb is an awesome service. Personally, I have never used it; everyone that I have talked to has said that they love it. What an idea… renting out your own home for a few nights to get some extra pocket money. The ideas that people have are so creative and awesome. Chesky saw the problem and thought about it for a little bit. Then, he came up with the perfect solution: Airbnb. It is an extremely successful business idea and a lot of people love it. Great post.
I see Airbnb as Uber but for homes. Uber took the taxi industry and flipped it upside down. Allowing people to use there own cars as taxis to make some extra cash if they wanted to. Airbnb is allowing people to rent out space in their house they may not be using to also earn a few extra bucks, totally flipping the hotel industry on its head. See the similarities?
