Can you imagine working with you siblings and creating a business when you’re only 10 or 11 years old? I personally was not thinking of a new product and creating a business at that age with my little sister. But Caroline and Isabel Bercaw did just that. These two sisters started this all with a science project that they did together where they made their own bath bombs. They were obsessed with their creation and the fun colors and smells that they could incorporate, and from there decided that they could start a business with their homemade bath bombs.
They first sold their homemade bath bombs for a local art fair near their hometown in Minneapolis and on the first day they sold out of all the 150 they made. The next day at the fair they had tried to make as many as possible but sold out again. And from there a business was born.
With both girls still in school their parents took an active role in running the business, and today is a family run a very successful bath bomb business; so successful that the parents were able to quit their other jobs to focus on the bath bombs business.
Da Bomb Bath Fizzers is the name of their business and can be found in stores such as Target and Ulta Beauty. Sales have been good and steady, with the company making around 500,000 bath bombs a month. Caroline and Isabel knew they needed to make their homemade bath bombs different from their competitors, and they came up with having small surprises inside the bath bomb that would be discovered as it fizzes in the bath.
Caroline and Isabel are a great example of entering a market that already existed and making it better and different. Putting little surprises in the bath bombs was an innovation that gave them an advantage and helped them standout from their competitors.

Wow – that’s crazy that they sold that many on their first day! I love how the whole family is involved and that their parents were able to quit their jobs to run this business full time! I admire that they not only started a business when they were so young, but they also achieved such great success that their product is in well-know stores. Their differentiation is great, and I love the idea of being able to discover something inside of the bath bomb as it dissolves!
