In his young late twenties, Sam Schillace was a software designer that wanted to do more. Growing up in the workplace he understood that work need to be done more efficiently. In the year 2006, sitting as a young man in an office, Sam was forced to work on documents that were emailed to him and that was it.
Same wanted to change that. He wanted to be able to create a platform that would enable people to work on it at one. Being a young web entrepreneur, he had the tools around him to get it done but needed to improve on what was already there. ‘Word processors today were invented 20 years ago, when the endpoint of the document was usually print, so they were very focused in that direction,’ Schillace said in a 2018 interview. This shows his view point as he wanted to create something more.
Writley was born in 2006, The ability for an individual to not store data, documents or more onto there hard drive or disk, but enable an individual to have them somewhere different. This somewhere was different, it was the cloud. Using brand new technology of that day and age he used it as the missing link for his new creation. Writley became a website where anyone with sharing privileges could edit a document at any time from any where.
This idea revolutionized the workplace, schooling and more. It has enabled so many people to share project seamlessly and today there are hundreds of thousands of terabytes of documents uploaded. It has changed the way the world has worked entirely. Today you know it as google docs.
Wow this is interesting! I never knew that is the origin of google docs but it is a great idea and an even better help to businesses. The ability for multiple people to edit at once really does revolutionize a project whether in a business or school setting. Great reporting.
Awesome post! I had always wondered how google docs came to be. I use it quite frequently and believe it is a great app. Great job on your post!
