Fraser Doherty saw an opportunity for a business at the age of 14 when being taught how to make his grandmother’s jams. At the age of 16 he presented his jam to Waitrose and became the youngest ever supplier to a major supermarket. From that point until today he has sold millions of jars of jam through thousands of supermarkets around the world.
Not only has SuperJam been a commercial success but they have also invested in social endeavors. Doherty was interested in seeing how he could help people with his success. He has held hundreds of free tea parties for the elderly and is also setting up hundreds of beekeeping projects. Fraser has even been by the Prime Minister of Scotland. He was also awarded a medal for services to business by the queen of England.
Doherty has expanded his brand from an idea in a kitchen in Scotland to being in thousands of grocery stores across the world. He now speaks and shares his story at different conferences. He has spoken at 500+ conferences in 27 different countries. This is a great example of how a small idea can turn into such a huge business and where starting a business can take you.
Starting a jam business at age 14 is something very unique to me. He has already sold millions of jars of jam which is crazy! I also enjoy how he has good public relations with his free tea.
It is truly crazy that such a small idea can change someones life forever. Our minds are more creative than we could ever imagine, each and every one of us holds the key to something great. It is just a matter of tapping into that knowledge and that can be the difference between becoming a millionaire.
I really enjoy that he just went out and decided to become a jam supplier to a supermarket at age 14. It’s also super cool of the store he decided to supply to allow a young boy to make homemade jam to sell to people. When I was his age I made peanut brittle and sold it to people wherever I went, but I never thought to advertise and sell to a supermarket. That would have been a great experience to have under the belt.
I’m sure that Doherty is not alone in the sense that many grandmothers probably make their own jam for fun. Its crazy how at only 14 he had the idea to take this to a supplier and start a steady business. I’m not sure if he or his grandmother thought it would blow up into what it is today. This should encourage people to look for opportunities in everything that they do. The fact that he is now speaking at conferences and is able to invest in multiple social endeavors and give back to his community is probably success beyond what either of them expected.
This is a great idea. It’s impressive how he got started when he was just 14. It’s nice to see a business giving back, and free tea parties aren’t something I’ve heard of, but they sound like a fun way to get people together.
