Jordan Karcher is the founder of the company “Grounds and Hounds.” He founded a business that makes good coffee with an even greater purpose. Their mission is to “…eradicate unnecessary animal euthanasia and improve animal welfare, our passion as a company is to provide and amazing coffee experience for our supporters every time they brew a cup of our coffee.” This coffee company donates 20% of their profit towards dog shelter and rescue organizations. They use organic, eco-friendly coffee beans that are sourced from the best regions throughout the world. Not only does Grounds and Hounds have multiple coffee roast flavors, but they also sell apparel, mugs, accessories for your dog, stickers and more! Karcher took two of his passions together and formed a business that has increased revenue by 300%. They have been able to grow while maintaining their mission: great coffee should fuel a greater purpose.
Karcher gives some great advice. He says, “While it is important to always follow your passion, remember that your product and the customer experience must meet or exceed that of industry competitors.” He found a way to be unique among all of the coffee brands by creating a company that gives towards good purposes and that also connects with him personally.
I like that this business incorporates its donation into its brand. It is also good that they have a variety of products, not just coffee, that they offer to the customers. I think that this really allows customers to see the cause that they are donating toward. This was a good post overall.
I love that Karcher pursued two things he cares about in a venture that is sustainable for his needs and in itself. He ended up creating a better option than buying coffee and donating to dog shelters separately. He is also raising awareness, creating stickers and ultimately conversations that bring light to dog shelters as well as advertise his coffee.
This is a great example of combining passions into one business. I love how he uses his coffee business to help another cause. It is inspiring to read that the business is growing yet they are sticking to their mission. I feel that these two ideas work well in a business model, the target market was well defined.
I really like this company and their idea. So many people today drink coffee, and so many people own dogs. Taking something most see as a necessity and animals like dogs which are sentimental really ties the strings for great success. I also love that they did not limit the business to just coffee and furthered the business to help raise more money for dogs. I like how he mentions that he puts his workers and customers first!
This idea is a perfect example of Johnson’s concept about how “we can think more creatively if we open our minds to the many connected environments that make creativity possible.” What a great idea to start a business that allows him to pursue both of his passions! Its just like Professor Sweet talked about in class, even if the two ideas seem totally unrelated(like rabbits and shampoo as we talked about in class), if you are creative enough, you can find a way to merge the ideas!
This is such a neat and unique idea! He used his passion and drive of coffee to create a business with not only good coffee, but a good experience. It has never even come to my mind to give coffee to a dog, but this is such a fun and intriguing idea and that has never crossed most people’s minds.
who doesn’t love a good cup of coffee? I don’t like coffee but I would buy it for a good cause. I love the idea that while selling good coffee they also donate 20% of their profits to dog shelters!
