Grechen Huebner is the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Kodable.
She is a self-taught designer. Grechen also has a big interest in computer science but she never had the opportunity to learn. A Westly prize winner, member of Forbes 30 under 30, and Business Insider’s Women to Watch under 30. Grechen was inspired enrich the lives of kids and adults.
She always though she was bad with technology growing up. When Grechen reached college she realized she would have to improve her tech skills to get a job. At the University of Louisville she had several internships while in school because she taught herself web design. Since she learned those skills she could financially support herself. Grechen wished she would’ve had the chance earlier. She wanted to give the chance to kids on how to do web design.
In 2012 Grechen and her co-founder Jon Mattingly founded Kodable in his Louisville dorm room. She pitched the idea to Jon Mattingly, and he also believed in that kids should have the chance to learn at a early age. They both decided on to give “teaching kids how to code” and they created Kodable.
With Kodable the team has kept the teacher’s needs in mind. Kodable has scripted lesson plans to automated assessment tools. Their goal is so everything is designed to help educators and kids.
I like how she took a issue she had as a child, technological troubles, and is now teaching it to kids in a fun and interactive style.
Kodable sounds like a really cool service/product. I am currently majoring in Comp. Sci. and I too wish I learned about coding at a much younger age. Especially with the entire market shifting to more a more digitalized world, her business (and others like it) will become essential in our modern world.
I really like how Grechen turned her loss of opportunity into motivation to prevent loss of opportunity in others. I also like how she has made sure to help educators as well, because coding is not usually taught in school.
