Hart Main is an entrepreneur who came up with the idea to make manly scented candles. He did this at the age of 13 after teasing his sister about selling scented candles specifically for girls for a school fundraiser. He was driven to make scented candles for men after reconsidering his purchase of a $1,500 bike. His parents contributed to helping their son develop the candles and start his own business, which they named ManCans. He shows the entrepreneurial trait of taking an idea, even if it sounds silly at first and evaluating a feasible solution. Hart’s ManCans candles show his innovation by putting manly scents such as Campfire, Bacon, Sawdust, Fresh Cut Grass, and Grandpa’s Pipe into soup cans. The company that makes these candles is Beaver Creek Candle Company in Lisbon, Ohio, which employs a developmentally disabled workforce to make the candles by hand. ManCans candles are sold in every state, with sales exceeding six figures annually. Hart also donates part of each of the sales to soup kitchens across Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Michigan. Hart Main inspires me to take whatever ideas I have, take what resources I have, and come up with a feasible solution. Hart Main inspires me to look at the possibilities of any idea.
I thought that Hart Main had a good idea and the name of the business is very creative. I am curious of how his candles actually smell because some of those scents sound very interesting. I like the fact that he gives back to the community and how they hire disables workers which provides them with a great employment opportunity.
