Nadja Piatka didn’t always have the high life as a successful entrepreneur. After some heavy misfortunes in her life, leaving her as a single and unemployed parent, she wasn’t sure what to do in order to support her family. Then, after Nadja had to hide from an angry bill collector under a table in in the dining room, she knew she couldn’t let herself or her kids live this life anymore.
Putting her favorite hobby of baking to use after finding that no one would hire her, Nadja figured she could bake for a living. Nadja baked a lot but would always be worried about gaining weight from the foods she loved. So, she got to work with a 100$ investment and tried to make a low-fat muffin. Nadja researched and experimented with scientific methods of controlling blood sugar and implemented her findings into a special recipe. This was when the famous Cranberry-Orange muffin was created! At first, she started small by sending her recipes to small cafes and coffee shops. After that, the muffin’s popularity grew, as did her recipes. Soon she was selling her recipes to McDonalds Canada and became the CEO of her own company: Holista Foods USA.
Holista Foods is a company dedicated to finding and creating healthier food options to combat the epidemic of obesity and high blood sugar levels. Creating low glycemic foods, they hope to battle obesity around the world with many newer recipes such as: low glycemic pasta noodles, low glycemic bread and low-fat brownies. They have also expanded to not only be suppliers of McDonalds but also Subway, Costanzo’s Bakery, and many more.
Nadja has come so far from where she started. She has even become a well-known author and has received many rewards and nominations in both the U.S and Canada.

Very interesting how she was able to use something she found enjoyable to help support her family and get them back on their feet. From this post it is so clear that Nadja is an entrepreneur and an innovator! She went from baking to creating a healthy muffin to creating several recipes to creating an entire business. I liked how this post outlined her “pivoting” process and showed how she wasn’t afraid to try different things.
This is incredible! I love how she rose out of hardship and adversity to create a wildly successful business.
