Jordan Fliegel loved basketball. He was also pretty great at it. He came from a background that was immersed in basketball and thus he always grew up playing and loving the sport. He spent his college years playing basketball at Bowdoin College where he started for 3 years and lead the team to the NESCAC Championship game. He then went on to play professionally at several different international teams. When he realized that his basketball playing days were over he realized he couldn’t bring himself to leave sports for good. He came up with an idea called Coachup that could help connect athletes to personal coaches in a way that has never been so streamlined. He created and promoted a website where athletes can go to search by location and sport what trainers and coaches are in their area. They then book those coaches and they set up the coaching sessions. The idea is great because it connects athletes who struggled to find personal coaches. Coachup makes revenue by charging the coaches a small fee per month of using the service. This is a great service in a very confusing area that really did find itself in a solid market.
I have used CoachUp in the past an it is an amazing thing. It connects private coaches from all levels with players of all kinds in all different sports. My problem was that there was not nearly enough coaches around, but as it grows, I can see it redefining private coaching and sports in general.
I love how this guy still used his passion for his sport to make something great and useful even if he couldn’t play the way he used to anymore. It’s truly an inspiration for me in my sport to do my best now and possibly use it later to connect other people to that passion.
Seeing entrepreneurs turn passions into businesses is truly inspiring. Jordan did just this. CoachUp is a phenomenal idea. It is great to get people connected. This is kind of like the LinkedIn of sports.
It’s awesome how this innovation helped both athletes and ex-athletes. It brings both those who are looking toward their sports career and those looking back. Many times, people look at one audience to promote their product to. This takes different perspectives of the problem and produces one device.
Very good idea! As my football career is coming to an end, i would be very interested in something like this. Not leaving the field completely and being able to help others train one day. I think it is a very unique idea with tons of potential. I think athletes will find it to their liking.
