If you’re like me, you love snacks. Unfortunately, most snacks leave you feeling sluggish and lousy after you eat them, not to mention that they’re filled with artificial and inflammatory ingredients. Katlin Smith, founder of Simple Mills, faced this problem early in her career as a traveling management consultant. She relied on prepackaged snacks for her food. She realized she needed to make a switch to a whole-food diet, and this switch made her feel way better and drastically improved her health. This is when she decided to start a snack brand made with only simple and natural ingredients. That is how Simple Mills was born, a snack brand focused on delicious snacks and quality ingredients. Starting in 2013, Simple Mills has grown to an annual revenue of around 100 million with products sold in stores such as Target, Walmart, Aldi, Giant Eagle, and Whole Foods. They offer crackers, cookies, bars, and baking mixes. Their products taste delicious and are similar to well-known snacks like Cheez-Its and Oreos, but are made without artificial colors and preservatives. Simple Mills started from Kaltin’s personal diet change that led to an innovative entrepreneurial opportunity. Simple Mills is one of my favorite snack brands and I recommend trying their crackers in particular.

I always seem to be on the go and just grabbing whatever I can find to eat which is never good. After reading about this is sounds like a great alternative to other snacks. It seems to be more filling and nutritional than other name brands. It’s so cool to learn about an alternative that won’t leave me unsatisfied when snacking.
Wow, not often do you see snacks, that taste good and are healthy. I think I might have to try this for myself, because lots of times I am in a rush and I’ll grab a quick snack but won’t get the nutrients I really need.
I have actually had some of their stuff before, its night and day better than the artificial stuff. I like how she identified a problem that she experienced in her career in a different profession and made a whole new business out of it. Good product and a cool story.
What a great example of an innovative idea! This idea/brand reaches so many people, as it addresses an extremely common problem. What is really cool about this 1-N idea is that it perfects a solution so many others have had. I absolutely love this brand, and definitely see the value in it!
I loved reading your post about Katlin Smith. I have definitely struggled with finding snacks that are healthy but also filling, so this story has me so intrigued. It is really cool to see a small, simple idea turn into such a big thing. It really shows that being an entrepreneur is not always creating something completely new but expanding on what already exists!
So cool! I loved reading this. It is always nice to learn about a healthy and positive brand that is taking off and being successful. It was really helpful to learn of the different stores that carry the product, it helps to put into perspective the success and the consumer demand for the product. Really cool idea, definitely something I will have to keep a look out for when shopping now!
I love this concept! I totally agree that finding good easy snacks for on the go is a challenge and this is definingly a product I’d love to try out! I loved how you included the stores the product is sold at! As well as the similar but slightly unhealthy options that simple mills can replace!
