Elizabeth Zerby is a nineteen-year-old entrepreneur and is really only known in my hometown. I grew up with Liz and have seen first-hand how she has been able to grow her very own cupcake business. After experimenting with different recipes, Liz developed an incredible gluten free cupcake that can compete with the best gluten filled ones. She managed all this from her kitchen at home. After she developed her initial recipe, she was able to create more flavors and new ways to decorate her cupcakes. Liz uses Instagram and other social media platforms to advertise her products and communicate with customers. She serves cupcakes for birthdays, weddings, graduation parties, and many other events. Cupcakes by Liz may not be a common name for most people, but in Mansfield, Ohio it spoken of very highly. Her cupcakes are recognizable at any event for their presentation and flavor. Liz’s business has been going strong for many years now, but she has had to slow down her business as she attends college. Even so, I do not believe she will stop making cupcakes any time soon. Sometimes being an entrepreneur does not come with big name success, but with a small consistent business.
In a world full of gluten, It’s always nice to see options that still maintain flavor and quality. I believe Liz has tapped into a great market, after all who doesn’t like cupcakes (and who wouldn’t mind being able to eat one with the excuse that it’s healthier than an average one)?
Coming from someone with a gluten allergy, I am very happy to hear about this. I am always struggling to find good gluten-free desserts I like. I agree that not every business needs to be big it can be a small consistent business as long as the owner is happy with what they are maintaining. I think that it is great that people can recognize it by presentation and taste. I am also dairy free so I would be interested to see if she could make both gluten and dairy free because there are a lot of dairy-free people as well.
I love that you chose to write about someone in your hometown. I think that is super cool and makes what you’re writing about feel much more personable. The way you spoke about it really makes me want to take a trip to Ohio! Also as someone who struggles with food intolerances it is always encouraging to hear how people are making big steps in the market for foods that are inclusive even to those with sensitivity.
As someone who prefers gluten-free foods, good cakes like this are needed as some just are not good. I’m glad to hear that someone our age is finding success by doing what they love! These types of products are definitely needed in the gluten-free market and there is a growing demand for these products. I hope she finds the time to continue making these cupcakes and can find even greater success.
I love this! As someone who is allergic to gluten I love seeing people and businesses fill the gap that exists for people that with allergies.
Coming across gluten-free options is hard these days. I never stop to think about how many people have gluten allergies until this past year. My young life leader is gluten-free and every time we had bible study it was hard to find treats or order treats that were gluten-free. But this gluten-free cupcake company seems to be a perfect treat to order to accommodate those with gluten allergies.
At such a young age, coming up with such an awesome idea is incredible. Everyone loves a cupcake but gluten can be an issue. Providing people with a gluten free alternative, is a very smart entrepreneurial strategy. Liz also uses her social media platforms to grow her popularity and increase her sales.
