WordPress was created by none other than Matthew Mullenweg. He dropped out of the University of Houston and went to work for CNET Networks but later moved on to found Automattic. The base of his code was b2. Soon Michel Valdrighi joined Mullenweg on his journey. The first form of WordPress was a GMPG microformat. Stayhorn was created in 2004 and had over 900,000 downloads. Mullenweg came to hire Yahoo executive and made the Polaris Venture Partners which created 29.5 million dollars for Automattic. In 2011 Mullenwe received the #3 spot on Business Insiders’ 30 founders under 30 list. Also he was named one of the top 10 most influential peple online for changing the face of the internet by Business Insider.
I also wrote on of my posts about Mullenweg for his product WordPress because this is something we have used and talked about in class. WordPress is a platform that allows people to create and share blogs and websites with all typed of people around the world. WordPress has grown a lot and is a great for the internet and idea sharing. Mullenweg has changed the way people share their ideas for a long time.
Very cool that the website we use for this class was founded by a millennial entrepreneur! I’ve seen a lot of people use this site for their blogs. It’s so easy to use, yet can be so customizable. It’s a great way for people to share their thoughts but not be limited to a set of black and white paragraphs.
Providing users with the power to share their stories and build solutions through web apps is an incredible idea. WordPress is truly one of the most powerful tools out there in web development, especially for users who want to go beyond the themes and templates of Squarespace and Wix.
Not every idea is flashy and exciting, but Mullenweg’s innovation should not be overlooked. WordPress is a powerful product that is the backbone of many different blog and websites. Mullenweg is an inspiration because of his dedication to his idea. It is crazy that he dropped out of school to follow his idea. Do we believe in our business ideas enough to do that?
Mullenweg is a great example! I just wrote about him and found even more information on him in your article. GOOD WORK
