Matthew Mullenwog created WordPress in hopes of changing the way individuals could publish content on the web. He began the project at 19 years old, 20 years ago. The service quickly outpaced its competition in usage and development, with over 900,000 downloads in the first year of its release. He later founded the company Automattic to continue the development of WordPress. By 2009, WordPress even outgrew Google’s blogging software and in 2011 the system was thought to power around 12% of the entire internet, which has now increased to around 43%. Even now with over 1900 employees, Mullenwog still has a large contribution to its effort.
Its very cool seeing one of the most popular platforms in the world today, in its “infant” stage. 900,000 downloads in the 1st year of its release is extremely good. I personally have never used wordpress before, but would definitely like to use it one day. Great story!
It’s awesome just how much was accomplished with the innovation and invention of WordPress. Even this website is created thanks to it.
I didn’t even know WordPress was a real company, I thought it was just some random software. To see the origin story behind what we’re using for this website right now is interesting to see.
