In 2012, Max Mullen along with Brandon Leonardo and Apoorva Mehta created Instacart. They knew going into this venture that the cards were stacked against them. Numerous times they had seen this business idea tried and failed. However, they were able to look at this idea from a different perspective and create an effective business model.
Instacart is an online grocery delivery service. Their technology is set up to predict if they can take an order, and how long it will take for delivery. The company partners with local grocery stores. They employ 7000 trained independent contractors who fill the orders by shopping for all the items on the customers list and then delivering the orders directly to the customers door within an hour.
Max Mullen was able to take a simple problem and solve it using a simple idea and technology. The innovation he showed through his business Instacart is incredible. At the age of 29 he created a $2 billion company. Max Mullen is a great inspiration to entrepreneurs everywhere.

This system is really convenient. I can’t believe how simple this idea is and now some people can’t live without it. Especially in cities, this is a life saver.
It’s so great that he, a 29 year old, was the one able to figure out how to do it with success! This idea is super convenient for people that have a lot going on whether it be with work or children, and it will be cool to see how this business grows!
I like how it implements the independent contractor concept that Uber has utilized and pivoted it to another application that makes life more convenient for the customer. What a great idea!
