At four years old, most of us are just learning the way of things. For Mikaila Ulmer, one of those things happened to be entrepreneurship.
After being stung by a bee two times in less than a week at age four, Mikaila began researching bees and their role in the ecosystem. Simultaneously, Mikaila was sent her great grandmother’s flaxseed lemonade recipe to enter in a business competition. So Mikaila decided to combine the two– bees and lemonade. She added honey to the flaxseed lemonade and began selling it, donating a percentage of the sales to saving bees, and Me & The Bees Lemonade was born.
Now, Me & The Bees Lemonade has been in business for 10 years and is currently sold at Whole Foods Market, World Market, and other grocery stores across Texas.
This is such a cute idea. I love how new ideas can be as simple as adding honey to lemonade. This is a great way to support a cause and to sell a great product and it’s really impressive she was only four years old. I wonder if more people would buy it if it was advertised for helping the bees.
I also made a post on this same entrepreneur and company! I loved to see how such a simple idea could grow to be so successful. A huge plus to me too was how Ulmer gave 10% of her profits to charity. Very good example of a successful young entrepreneur.
It’s really cool that she was able to take a really painful experience and create something unique. While researching bees she saw not so much a problem as a creative combing of seemingly unrelated things.
I think it is really neat that she combined two different ideas dealing with her circumstance. That idea definitely wouldn’t have come to my mind. Having lemonade stands or just selling lemonade isn’t too original or special. However, she was able to make hers stand out by using the bees! It was very smart and created a very well thought out product.
I love this idea I think it is very entrepreneurial how she was able to incorporate two different things like bees and lemonade and make something new! I also appreciate how she donates a portion of her sales to save the bees. This would definitely make me want to support her business knowing that a portion was going to something good!
