Are you scared of bees? Well Mikaila Ulmer was also scared of bees but she overcame that fear.
When Mikaila Ulmer was four years old she got stung by a bee and also got stung again less than a week later. That is how she became scared of bees. Later on, she started to do some research on bees and became fascinated with bees. She learned about what bees do for her and our ecosystem.
Then Mikaila’s family started to encourage her to make a product for a children’s business competitions. Which were the Acton Children’s Business Fair and Austin Lemonade Day. She started to think of ideas, and she thought of her Great Granny Helen that had a cookbook. She found a recipe for flaxseed lemonade. She then thought of something that would help honeybees and use her Great Granny Helen’s recipe. Mikalia decided to add honey to her great grandma’s lemonade recipe. She started her lemonade stand out in front of her home, she also donated a percentage of her profits to a local/international organizations fighting hard to save the honeybees.
Now Mikalia’s 15 years old and her little idea continues to grow. It has grow about 500 percent since the beginning. Today the Me & the Bees Lemonade five flavors are on the shelves of Whole Foods Market, The Fresh Market, World Market H-E-B stores across Texas. In Houston the Me & the Bees Lemonade is also at Kroger. It is also available at restaurants, food trailers, and natural food delivery companies. She continues to save the bees.
Wow, what an amazing story! I enjoyed reading how Ulmer overcame her fear of bees and turned her fear into a strength which she used to start her business. Ulmer’s story should be an inspiration for us, since we have the ability turn our fears and weaknesses into strengths.
