When Mikaila was just 4 years old she was stung by a bee. Less than one year later she was stung a second time. These bee stings caused Mikaila to have a fear of bees and she wanted to research more about these creatures. What she found led her to appreciate bees. Mikaila discovered that bees are vital to our ecosystem and we need them. This discovery led Mikaila to create “Me & The Bees Lemonade”. This lemonade was inspired by Mikaila’s great grandmas old lemonade recipe from the 1940s. She adapted this recipe to include honey from bees.
Mikaila not only sells delicious honey but donates a portion of her profits to preserve honeybees. Mikaila’s business has been featured on shark tank, and now sells in places like costco. “Me & The Bees Lemonade” has been in business for about 10 years at this point and is making substantial impact in the world as they continue to send money to the bees and sell their delicious drink. Through the use of storytelling and branding, “Me & The Bees Lemonade” has found a way to set themselves apart from the competition. When you buy the drink you get a sense that you are doing something good for the world.
I find Mikaila’s story to be very inspiring and she is one of the youngest entrepreneurs I know starting her business journey at just 4 years old.
Wow this is a crazy story. I think it’s so interesting that she was able to turn
her fear into a business and ultimately create a product that people love and has made it into so many stores. I wonder if we all did research on things that impact that impact our lives, if we would be able to gain enough knowledge to start a business like she did.
I think Mikaila definitely has an entrepreneurial mindset, by researching the problem she was having and then positively creating a solution that resulted in a successful business! I think people sometimes disregard how much bees are a necessity for our ecosystem, so it’s so cool to see she’s supporting bees when originally, she probably didn’t like them because she was getting stung.
What an awesome story behind the business. It shows us just how our fears or dislikes can lead us to innovate.
