Mikaila Ulmer has been in the business world for eleven years… and she’s only fifteen. That’s right, Mikaila started her business at just four years old. It started when she was stung by
two bees. Naturally, she was very scared. However, in order to ease her mind, her parent’s taught her all they could about bees. She was then able to better understand their impact, and how important they are. Bees quickly became a passion for Mikaila.
Then, in a perfect example of ideas colliding together, her family received a cookbook. This cookbook contained a recipe for lemonade, with some tweaking, Mikaila stumbled across a delicious recipe: lemonade with honey. This unlikely combination has become the basis for her business, Me and the Bees Lemonade.
Me and the Bees Lemonade was originally entered in a children’s business competition in Austin, Texas. However, Texas was not big enough for Mikaila. She appeared on SharkTank, which boosted her business tremendously. Since then, Me and the Bees Lemonade has just continued t
o grow, and now offers beeswax infused lip balms and a wide variety of lemonade flavors.
In addition to providing us with refreshing lemonade, Me and the Bees Lemonade donates all profits to The Healthy Hive Foundation. The Healthy Hive Foundation is an organization started by Mikaila that is dedicated to conducting research and providing education about bees. Through this, their hope is to protect the bees. The Healthy Hive Foundation is a wonderful organization, and serves as a wonderful example of a social entrepreneurship.
Mikaila has embraced her entrepreneurial spirit. She is frequently delivering inspirational speaks, furthering the social impact of her business and The Healthy Hive Foundation.
Overall, Mikaila is a very inspiring young entrepreneur. She took something that she feared, and turned it around to something incredibly positive. Everyone, from large companies to grade school students, can learn something from Mikaila.

I’ve ever heard of this company, but I can remember my Grandmother making me lemonade with honey in it. It was very good! For a 4 year old to capitalize on something such is this is really impressive. It is also unique how she took something she was afraid of, and turned it into something that she embraced and innovated off of.
Getting stung by bees can be an extremely scary thing–especially for a 4-year-old! My brother walked into a yellow jackets nest when he was young and it definitely is a traumatic experience! It is truly amazing that Mikaila was able to take her fear and turn it into something so positive! I love that she is using the profits in such an inspiring way to support the Healthy Hive Foundation.
It’s awesome that she started this at 4 years old and has continued to grow her business! I’ve never heard of lemonade with honey in it, but it seems to be a big hit! I think many people can learn from Mikaila because she turned a fear into a product that people love! Since appearing on SharkTank, business has gone up tremendously and i think she is a great example for people! It shows that you can be any age and create a product and business.
Great Posts! I read an acritical about this company and found it very fascinating. It is amazing how something as simple as a bee can spark an idea for a company. It is also impressive that a 4- year old came up with the idea.
