Everyone loves cookies. A statement so simple, yet so universally true. Ten year old New Jersey native Cory Nieves decided to capitalize on the sweet tooth of Americans when he started his company, Mr. Cory’s Cookies. Corey decided to start baking and selling cookies in order to raise money to purchase a car for he and his mother, so they wouldn’t have to endure cold New Jersey winters by foot. With a noble cause in his mind, the young entrepreneur began to work.
At first, Cory new not the slightest bit of information regarding baking or cooking in general. However, with the help of some magazines and a few key Google searches, he was up and running. The area of expertise separating Mr. Cory’s cookies from other brands is the fact that he uses only all natural ingredients, never processed, and ingredients as directly sourced as possible. Aside from the fact that the cookies are of exceptional quality, Cory claims that he bakes his cookies with love, supposedly giving him a leg up on the competition.
Now how did a door to door “lemonade stand-eque” business rise to such meteoric proportions? Essentially, consumers not only loved the product, but also the kid behind those delicious cookies. Cory knew how to market himself. He made appearances on both Shark Tank, and even Ellen’s show. This publicity helped to build his brand immensely, and building a brand is crucial in gaining loyal customers.
Cory indeed has sold enough delicious cookies to get his mom that car they so desperately needed, but he is not done yet. Aside from wanting to continue to grow his current business, you can bet that he has other ideas brewing for future ventures. In fact, he even wants to have his own clothing line some day. The future is very bright for Cory Nieves, and very sweet as well.

Cory is the perfect example of the importance not only of the product but the marketing as well. Cory’s product was not very groundbreaking or even seemingly unique, but he marketed himself along with the product. Also, this case truly show the power of starting a business venture with a purpose or goal in mind.
