Ralphy Dominguez went to prison for selling drugs, he came out an skilled worker. Soon after, he became an entrepreneur, combining his skill with aid from Refoundary a company that helps ex-inmates get back on their feet. Ralphy learned through a craft course in prison how to build with leather. He came out of prison and through Refoundary was able to start his own company making hand-crafted leather wallets. The acquire leftover materials from large companies and refashion it into quality wallets. Since starting the business, Ralphy has hired two other men, who were formerly in prison, to help him create the products. They have done business in flea markets around New York City, and recently have been given shelf space at a high-end boutique in Manhattan.
This story is so cool, because it is someone using their creativity and skills to not only redeem his life, but also produce a legitimate business. Now he is making an honest living, and helping to redeem the lives of others by giving them a job in his growing platform.
what an awesome story. one of my favorite things about entrepreneurship is it does not matter who you are or what youve done, you can do great things with an idea
This is quite a successful turnaround for him. It is probably cheaper to buy the leftover material from other companies than buying leather outright.
It’s always inspiring to see someone who has gone to a place so low as prison and learned to rise above their old actions and become successful
