Austin Richard Post also known as “Post Malone” was born on July 4th 1995. Post was born in Syracuse New York, but moved to Grapevine Texas when he was 9 years old. Post was introduced to various types of music including hip-hop, country, and rock by his father Rich Post.
Something that is very unique about Post is that back in 2010 he auditioned for the band “Crown the Empire,” but he was rejected because his guitar strings broke during the audition. Post’s initial interest for guitars was struck when he played the famous game “Guitar Hero.” People originally thought Post’s stage name was formed because of Karl Malone, but Post said he simply used his last name and a rap name generator.
Post was always driven to make great music. He was enrolled in college, but eventually dropped out and moved to San Fernando Valley with friends to create music. Post’s business model was very interesting because his first hit was “White Iverson” which received high praise from the famous Pittsburgh rappers Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa. Post has been innovating ever since this song dropped and has come out with top hit albums like “Stoney” and “Beer Bongs and Bentleys.”
Post has inspired me because he never gave up. He was rejected by a silly band, but little did they realize he was a massive talent. This could happen to any entrepreneur who has a vision. Post has taught me to look at the bigger picture even if things get tough. I have also learned to keep innovating just like Post did. Don’t just be a “one hit wonder” and keep striving for greatness.
Although we shouldn’t be praising people who do drugs and consistently drink as a platform for a fan base, we should respect the fact that he simply came from nothing and nearly having his dreams crushed at the audition where his strings broke.
Interesting article. It’s admirable how he didn’t give up and kept pursuing his dream of making music even through his failures. It’s cool how he kept going and evenutally found success because he was confident in his abilities and knew there was a need for his music. That’s a trait that any entrepreneur of any kind should strive for.
Post is the man. I personally find Posts music his own genre because you can’t compare his music to anyone else’s. It’s genuinely his, that’s what makes him different from other artists and unique. He uses his music to connect with people on a personal level, and spreads positivity in my opinion. That’s what makes him Post Malone, there is no one like him.
Great article Joe! I thought your point about Post’s music constantly changing was really good. Often times when people get famous or even semi successful at one thing they will stay in that ‘rut’ and won’t branch out for fear of failure. But he is a perfect example of all the additional success one can have by stepping out of their comfort zone and trying new things.
I really enjoyed the article! It’s always great hearing the story of such an interesting, young entrepreneur. I really enjoyed the way he differentiates himself from others.
The line about the one hit wonder was quite powerful. It’s too easy to seek that 15 minutes of fame, but it’s important to strive for something bigger and more sustainable.
