When thinking about a great idea developed by a young person during Midterm week, Quizlet was something that came to mind. Andrew Sutherland, was just a young kid when the whole idea started. He developed an idea that would help him do well on a test and soon after kids were asking how he did it. On Quizlet’s website they say that they have had “2 billion study sessions, 125 million user generated study sets, 40 million users every month, and 1 in every 4 high school students in the United StatesĀ uses Quizlet daily.” Considering Quizlet is about 10 years old, this information is unbelievable. Quizlet has developed better ways to study other than just normal flashcards as well, they include games and you can test yourself. The fact that this was all started by one kid trying to study for a test in high-school, shows how ideas can really pop out of nowhere sometimes.
This is absolutely fantastic because it shows that if a high schooler can create such a helpful and innovative venture as Quizlet, anyone can!! How awesome it would be to have such success at such a young age. Truly incredible.
It makes sense that a millennial developed Quizlet because he was probably a student who really understood the problem of struggling to study for quizzes and tests. Today, professors, teachers, students, and tutors use it!
I use quizlet all the time and I know a lot of my friends do as well, but those statistics are crazy. To have come up with something while in high school that one in four high schoolers use daily is very impressive. It’s kind of weird to think that his idea to go from handwritten flashcards to virtual flashcards made him so successful. It shows that ideas don’t have to be earth-shattering, they just have to fix a problem efficiently.
Who would’ve guessed how Quizlet came to be! I think this is a great example of a seemingly simple idea that fulfilled a void in the market and came to benefit so many!
It’s hard to think about how I used to study terms before Quizlet. It’s such a simple idea to make en electronic flashcard program, but yet no one else thought it was worth pursuing. It is also surprising how fast Quizlet caught on. I make sets for all of my classes.
I never knew that quizlet was created by a high school student. I think many of us can agree that studying can be rather difficult and tedious, so having any help at all can be an absolute God-send. I like how this young man saw exactly where there was pain and created an idea that would help fix it.
