Andrew Sutherland is the founder and CTO of Quizlet. He was having trouble learning French in high school and wanted better grades on his exams. As a high school sophomore in 2005 at the age of sixteen, Andrew created Quizlet and started acing his exams in French. He showed some of his friends what he had come up with and they started acing their exams as well. Andrew knew he had something great but his product needed more work. So he went to MIT to study computer science and fixed some of the kinks in his product and made it accessible to everyone on the internet.
With that being said I can assume that most students with an internet connection have heard of and used Quizlet as their time as a student. It is a very helpful tool for studying tests and quizzes. Today 50 million students and teachers use it every month. The web-based study site and app have been shown to help students increase their school performance through over 300 million study sets. They have also raised as much as twenty million dollars in funding since 2018.
This is very interesting in the fact that it was a high school kid who created it. I always thought it was a parent who was trying to help their kids get better grades. It is a great app and very beneficial. I use it for all my test, and I love it. Interesting that he took and idea, and then went to college to help expand it and make it better.
I use Quizlet so much, but learning how it started was really awesome. It’s crazy how a sixteen-year-old thought of such a useful and widely used site. That’s proof that there is no age requirement to be an entrepreneur.
