Have had a last-minute cram? Tried to Google answers to a quiz (not that any Grover would)? or Tried needed to make and catalog flash cards online?
At 15 years old Andrew Sutherland started Quizlet. This online, and now app-based, service allows students to create, share, and view series of flashcards. These cards can be grouped be class/course number as well as a general topic title. As the service has grown- several subscription services are available to both remove adds and not limit content. Sutherland furthered his education by attending MIT for three years. Sutherland dropped out to further his venture. Quizlet, now approaching 40 Million Users, raised $30 Million in it’s last round of financing.
The new ‘Quizlet Pro’ gives users unlimited access and storage for a fee of $20 a year. This platform continues to expand, now offering ‘Quizlet Full’ in seven languages.
I find this platform intriguing as, aside from serves, the company does not have large physical assets- rather, the information and content is created and cataloged by users themselves. This self-perpetuating model is scale-able and long-term, as the more users, the more content, more content means appealing to more users, so on and so forth.
This is so cool! I find it to be very inspirational that a 15 year old was able to create such a revolutionary platform. He found a way to see a need that we, as a general public, didn’t know we had. Now, I cannot imagine my life without Quizlet. Andrew Sutherland has the ability to solve a problem in a new innovative way.
Great Job with your article! I would highly recommend using Quizlet for every Huma that you take and also to study for the Mid-term in this class.
I had no idea the founder of quizlet was so young! I also like how you pointed out how the business model self-perpetuates. The more it is used, the more useful it becomes.
He has quite literally created a very specific and unique niche students who study, whether it be a healthy study schedule or cramming at the last minute. It is also surprising to see him having this amount of success at such a young age. I have used Quizlet for some years now and had no clue that it was someone at the age of 15 to create such and amazing online service.
Cool topic for an aritcle! I use quizlet all the time, and it’s so useful for studying with all it’s features. It goes beyond just using note cards. I’m impressed that he created the company at 15. I wonder how successful the subscription to Quizlet is, because I haven’t heard much about people paying for it. Nevertheless, the app has really revolutionized the way students study, and it seems like you can find a quizlet out there somewhere for almost any class you decide to take.
