Hot Wheels. Barbies. Legos. Kids love toys and there is no doubt about it. Eight-year-old Ryan Kaji decided that he would voice his own personal experiences though his own YouTube channel, Ryan’s ToysReview. This channel makes millions each year by publishing a wide variety of product review videos showcasing the latest toys. According to Business Insider, an American financial and business news website, in 2017 Ryan’s channel grosses $22 million. This insane amount of revenue earned Ryan’s ToysReview the highest earning YouTube channel of the year. To put this young entrepreneur’s success in perspective, this impressive total doubled from the previous year.
As of September 2019, Ryan had over 21 million YouTube subscribers and over 31 billion views on his videos. Sometimes during his videos, Ryan is joined by his twin sisters or his parents. In addition to product review videos, sometime Ryan films educational clips or unboxing products. He also loves making his own science experiments, skits, music videos, and DIY arts and crafts. The Kaji family works together to release a video almost every day. His channel, Ryan’sToysReview, success has paved the way for multiple merchandise partnerships with big brands such as Walmart and Nickelodeon. Some of the products that Ryan’s ToysReview offers are notebooks, stuffed animals, action figures, headphones, toothpaste, blankets, backpacks, lunchboxes, pinatas, and so much more!
Although Ryan clearly isn’t managing his own channel or business deals on his own, he still was able to exercise his entrepreneurial spirit and start his YouTube channel in 2015. In addition to Ryan’s ToysReview there are a variety of supporting or similar channels such as Ryan’s Family Review, Combo Panda, Gus the Gummy Gator, and The Studio Space. Each channel has its own original content and is viewed by billions. Ryan’s small hobby has blossomed into a multi-million-dollar business.
This is an amazing example of how you can make an unconventional but still sizable living. The growth of Youtube over the years has been an extraordinary way for people to make a living from doing things they love. What a great idea to have your child review toys, something kids are great at, to provide valuable feedback for consumers and companies. Kids are ultimately your audience when making toys and this is a great way to see what they actually think.
Wow social media has really taken a turn on this one. A successful youtuber with over 21 million views at 8 years old is incredible. What a great entrepreneurial mind. Of course all of the parents are going to take the review of a 8 year old over some yelp review written by an old man. Ryan is a true entrepreneur. Great piece.
This is a really cute story. My younger brother who is six began talking about starting up his own gaming YouTube channel last year when he was five. To be honest, the idea concerned me, because I didn’t want videos of him from his childhood to come back and embaress or haunt him in the future. But then I look at stories like this, and seriously doubt that Ryan would be haunted by his past videos. I mean, they’ve made him millions of dollars, and he is only a kid.
Absolutely amazing! I have never seen or heard about him. And he probably makes all that money through affiliate marketing. He reviews products, puts links in the descriptions, and gets a commission for every sale. Reviews have become very popular and a very crowded “market.” There’s almost somebody with an established name for a niche. Although, the market is always changing and someone could get ahead of the next niche, or tap into one that someone overlooked. But with this case, I bet someone told the family, “eh, if you were really right, someone would have done it already.” But it doesn’t look like somebody has before them. And it’s even better having the kid as the face of the channel.
This is incredible and really shows that age doesn’t matter when you are dedicated and have good idea’s. This can be immensely powerful and He has proven it.
