Declan McGinley is a self taught videographer and film editor who specializes in the area of music videos. Always loving music and film, Declan very quickly fell in love with filming from a young age. He loved to always just shoot videos of himself doing funny stuff in his yard as a young boy, but then began to really become interested in what he could do with a camera when he entered high school.
Using the film editing software Final Cut Declan began to toy around and see what he could create. Starting with short videos for local high school athletes or his local high school sports teams, he began to create a portfolio while learning more and more along the way.
Perfecting his craft he was able to turn his editing skills into a business where he began to film music videos for small local rappers in the area of Connecticut and New York City. Continuing to build his skills, portfolio and connections he began to get more noticed, eventually becoming the director for Jay Critch, while also having the opportunity to film and direct for artists such as G Herbo and Pop Smoke. Born was Declan’s film brand or name in which he goes by which is DeadEnd Productions.
Now after graduating high school Declan has decided to commute to school attending Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, Connecticut allowing him to continue his education, but his business as well. Declan is going to school for film and dreams to continue his success, scaling it, until he can make this into a living where he becomes a well known director, videographer, and editor in the music community.
This is great, really shows how a little bit of pivoting and trying new things can lead to a lot of success!
I love hearing stories of artists turning their craft into a business. The art world is competitive, but as an artist myself I take inspiration from other people doing it. It’s tough, but it can be done and no-one should be discouraged from finding themselves a niche for their passion in the world.
