Daniel Ek founded Spotify in 2006 to eliminate paying per song costs. He thought consumers would be willing to listen to music for free if he granted a certain amount a skips and had ads every couple songs. In this scenario the ads would make him some money. For those who want to be able to listen to any song they want without interruption he made it possible to pay $5-10 a month for unlimited music. In the very beginning of this process he was nervous he wouldn’t reap a profit from this. He needed a lot of users in order to break even with the song costs.
Despite the risks, Ek pursued the idea. Spotify launched in 2008 and rapidly became popular. Ek was receiving investments from venture capitalists, and many music lovers converted from iTunes to Spotify. By 2012 Spotify had 20 million active users, and in 2017 it had 160 million. The music streaming service grew rapidly and even forced Apple to create an identical service in order to not lose all of its iTunes users.
Personally, I have used Spotify myself and really loved the idea of listening to any song I wanted because I did not mind the ads. It was only when I went to premium and then back to the free version did I mind the ads and kept paying for premium.
I’m a big user of Spotify premium. I love being able to listen to any music I want without using data by downloading playlists to my phone. It makes long car rides much more fun. I’m not sure what my life would be like if Daniel hadn’t taken the risk to start Spotify. It’s my number one go-to for any music-related needs.
I absolutely love Spotify! It is the only place I get my music from now. I love how you can save and organize your music into playlists and download them to your phone for such a low price. It’s crazy how fast the amount of users grew, but I’m not surprised because of how great of an app it is.
I love using Spotify! I discovered it many years ago, but had some difficulty learning exactly how it worked. But since then it is the only music service I use and the only service I would recommend to anyone.
I have Spotify premium and am a huge fan. I was not fond of it at first after I switched from using Pandora. Since I got a premium membership I haven’t looked back. I love how it provides song suggestions and playlists just for me.
