As a teenager, Steven Crowder started off in the performing arts as an actor and a comedian. He performed in many national competitions with great success. As he got older he realized that his “politically incorrect” humor would resonate with and get laughs from many on the internet.
Crowder saw an opportunity as the political climate was starting to resemble Hollywood more and more and he started a political comedy show on Youtube. He called his show “Lowder with Crowder” which is a weekly show where he discusses the current political climate mixed with jesting humor.
Louder with Crowder became extremely successful as one of the most popular conservative channels on youtube, which was able to be monetized. On top of youtube monetization, Steven created a “mug club” which is a subscription to view unique content and receive other special perks such as a Louder with Crowder mug, hence the name.
Since Crowder’s launch of Louder with Crowder, he has started a segment on his youtube channel called “Change My Mind” where he goes into public locations such as universities or in front of the White House. In this segment he asks presents an idea and asks the public to convince him to change his mind on said idea. This has sky-rocketed his popularity to the point where even if someone doesn’t support his ideologies, they’ve probably still heard of him.
Crowder has time and time again navigated murky water to improve his entrepreneurial endeavors and continue his ventures in comedy and politics.
The political environment is one that doesn’t necessarily see a ton of innovation, so it’s awesome to see someone disrupting the norm and getting younger people interested in politics. I haven’t ever seen his segments, but I will definitely have to give them a watch sometime!
This is really fascinating, I never knew that Steven Crowder started out as a comedian and actor. Its interesting to see the story on how he became known in the political realm from being a comedian and actor.
I like how you brought up his biggest claim to fame segments of “Change My Mind”. This is where must of his followers have come from if they had not heard of him before, me being one of them. They are also very interesting because he makes great points regarding what he believes but also lets others speak their views and really listens to them instead of just brushing them off.
I’ve heard of Crowder through the “Change My Mind” segments. I didn’t know about his other show or that he started as a comedian. It’s a really interesting premise, going places and giving his opinions and being open to political discussions with people over sometimes contraverisal issues. It’s an innovative idea to get people to talk about, and learn about politics.
I had a friend in high school who loved Crowder so I was familiar with his comedic work, but he had kinda fallen off my radar since then. I never thought to look at his work through an entrepreneurial lens, which is fascinating. I think he is a good example of using emotion, conversation, humor to connect and build a successful brand.
I love comedy especially when it has a point underlying it. Its interesting to think about why this sort of comedy has become so popular. I think it might be because if you make someone laugh it’s a lot harder to offend them and in our culture everyone is fixated on not offending anyone.
Lowder with Crowder is hilarious. I don’t always agree with the content of the videos that he produces, but it’s difficult to deny the comedic value that they offer. Using the medium of comedy to advance a political concept is not a new idea. People have been doing it for year in political comics, politically-charged stand up routines, and even ads of candidates or parties themselves. However, Crowder seems to have perfected it. Using comedy to advance message is something we can all use to share our opinions better.
As a fairly big fan of Steven Crowder, I must say that he is a pretty innovative individual. He know how to make quite a ripple in a rather tense political sphere. In addition to what you mentioned, I also find it interesting that he uses negative publicity to his advantage (sort of like Chick-Fil-A). He is definitely an innovative (and somewhat controversial…) creator!
