Beginning his career in IT consulting, Carl Rodrigues quit his sound job in 2001 with a mission to innovate something extraordinary. It is said that Rodrigues quit his job without any real idea. A risky move for someone who had relatively little savings. After a month, Rodrigues created a software platform which integrated the use of your mobile phone from your laptop.
This is a very useful platform for business professionals who work on their computers all day but might have their assistant answer calls during the day. It allows for the executives, per say, to control their phone from their computer. Rodrigues named his company Soti. His first twelve months were slow, according to the BBC article. Today, Soti is valued at over $1 billion. Rodrigues’ success is a tribute to hard work, dedication, and the willingness to believe in himself despite what others say.

Such an inspirational story. Loved that he took a chance and quit his job to pursue a goal that he had, and he didn’t give up. This story collaborates well the lessons we have talked about in entrepreneurial mind.
I think its amazing when entrepreneurs take the leap of faith to quit their jobs and pursue there dreams. Saying you want to do something like this is one thing, but risking your life savings and eating ramen for months on end is a whole other thing.
I respect how Carl had the courage to give up a steady job for the risk of being an entrepreneur. If I was in his place, I don’t think I would have the confidence to drop a yearly salary in favor of pursuing a personal project. But I’m glad it worked out for him in the end!
I love that he quit his job without knowing what he was going to do next and how he worked hard to pursue something he wanted. I definitely wouldn’t want to drop off my yearly salary and not make money for a few years but some people are a lot more ambitious and believe a lot.
Giving up a job for the sake of creative freedom is a risky move. And despite the slow start, Carl continued with his idea and eventually all his hard work paid off. This shows that even if an idea isn’t an instant success, persistence and dedication can change everything.
I love that he saw his opportunity and went for it. It would be hard for me to do the same, honestly. The fact that he did not have a real plan when he quit his job also scares me. However, seeing that it worked out for him is inspiring.
