Jermaine Cole, a hip hop artist, founded the Dreamville Foundation in October 2011. The Dreamville Foundation, a non-profit organization, was created to help provide special opportunities to the youth within Cole’s hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The foundation is mainly funded by Cole through his record label Dreamville Records and the Dreamville Festival. The Dreamville Festival, founded by Cole, is hosted in North Carolina once a year which features music, food, culture, and art. This past year the Dreamville Festival was actually cancelled due to Hurricane Florence.
The Dreamville Foundation mostly aims to help the youth in the North Carolina communities such as back to school supplies, a book club, and a homestead for single mothers and their children to live rent-free. Due to recent events involving a disastrous hurricane that hit Cole’s hometown, the Dreamville Foundation is now focused on helping those affected recover. Anyone can now donate on the foundation’s website which will help fund “hot food stations placed throughout the city, temporary housing options for families, and stocking of food pantries/shelters.” Cole has turned his success in the music industry into a brand that represents helping those in need in his home state. Not only is Cole a musical genius, but he is also an entrepreneur who is successfully created value and impact through innovation in his own community. The fact that Dreamville is continuously pivoting is incredible! For a non-profit to be constantly changing its mission is so important and allows for more support for more problems. Nice post!
It’s interesting to see celebrities give back to the communities they grew up in. I love seeing how they can be a tremendous influence that positively affects the mindset of young people, particularly in their hometown. I’m sure some of the youth who have connected with the Dreamville foundation are inspired to to achieve more and give back in the future because of what they witness from Cole.
