The Little Ghost
Snap Chat is one of the trendiest things around the world right now. Its little ghost symbol has been become a cornerstone of pop culture and represents the new trend in social media. Though Snap Chat is full of controversy from how deleted are the pictures that are sent to its used only for inappropriate purposes it can’t be denied that snap chat is taking the millennial generation by storm. From February 2013 to November 2013 the amount of daily messages increased from 60 million messages per day to 400 million messages per day! Snap Chat’s beginnings fit right in with traditional technological achievements as it was launched from co-founder Evan Spiegel’s dad’s living room on July 2011. Snap Chat began as a class project and is now a trendy social media app that is valued at over 10 billion dollars! Snap Chat is the tool of the millennial and is replacing Facebook as our new main method of our main outlet of social media. As Snap Chat continues to add new features to keep people entertained their next step is to figure out how to make profit on this multi-billion dollar app. Continue to watch out for the little ghost as snap chat continues to grow and infiltrate our culture.
Speigel did an excellent job of distinguishing his service based off one little problem with photos. Snap chat’s claim to fame is its disappearing pictures, and that has enabled it to flourish. It makes me wonder, what other services are ripe for similar alternatives.
Snap Chat is certainly a significant company. It is amazing how something so simple can have such a huge impact on communication and social media.
It’s funny how the simplest ideas are the ones that catch on. I’ll be very interested to see how Snapchat continues to monetize the app more and more, and if that leads to push back from users.
I know Snapchat is used avidly by our generation, but most of the people my parents’ age that I’ve talked to are pretty skeptical. They see the newsworthy information about this app, associating it with hacked photos and limited security. It will be interesting to see how things develop with the older generation’s opinion.
Great post, Noah. I know Snapchat is used a lot now, and for a plethora of purposes. There are lots of parents today that are curious about this app and if it’s really bringing about positive reform or not. Personally, I think Snapchat is a fun thing to use, as long as it is being used for the right purposes. However, this is still something that is taking the culture by storm, you’re right about that! Great post!
