At the age of 19, Kylie Jenner launched her own cosmetics line by the name of Kylie Cosmetics. In 2016, she released her famous lip kits which took social media by storm. With the popularity of her lip kits, she decided to launch her own brand.
The new brand incorporated eye-shadow palettes, blushes, highlighters, and of course more lip products. The brand continuously puts out new collections. Recently, the Halloween collection and her birthday collection were released. These collections were highly reviewed and took over the YouTube platform. She appeared on the platform for the first time on the James Charles channel, one of the largest beauty channels on YouTube, to preview her Halloween collection.
Kylie is 21, now, and was just on the Forbes magazine cover as a “self-made billionaire.” The article explained how Kylie created a beauty empire in just two years. This article created controversy due to the use of the phrase “self-made.” People say that she was raised in a rich family that gave her the finances and resources to create Kylie Cosmetics. Others believe that she was self-made due to her making all the major decisions within the company.
Despite where one may fall on the controversy, Kylie Jenner is a billionaire because of Kylie Cosmetics. She is a millennial entrepreneur because of Kylie Cosmetics, as well.
Whether Kylie should be considered “self made” or not, it is admirable that she wanted to pursue her own business even though she could have easily sat back and enjoyed a stress free life of having a wealthy family without putting in any work.
I think Kylie and her family saw what their audiences wanted and gave it to them. They knew that their fans wanted to buy from them because they looked up to them. That’s smart that they played to their strengths.
Personally, Kylie and her family realized that there was a huge market for them to take advantage of and that’s what they did. They started realeasing the beauty products and realized that their fans ate them up so they kept releasing them. Kudos to them.
