Many seven year olds stay parked in front of the television for hours watching cartoons. However, this is not the case for Sebastian Martinez. Sebastian is the CEO of his own company called Are you kidding, which raises money for organizations such as the American Cancer Society. It all started with his passion for unique and funky socks. This idea sparked a business that continues to grow, surpassing $15,000 in January of 2015. Since then, Socks by Sebastian has continued to grow and sell from their website. Sebastian and his brother use their creative socks to raise funds for local and national charities. Now at the young age of eight and ten, these two brothers use their creativity and hard earned money for others. They run their company and make significant incomes, money that any young kid would happily spend on themselves. Yet, they both forgo splurging on material goods and donate to kids with autism and cancer.
No matter the age, a simple idea can make a huge and lasting impact on the community. Anyone who is interested in these two young entrepreneurs can either purchase socks, get their school involved in the company, donate, or volunteer to one of Are You Kidding’s partner organizations.
Below is an example of some of the wild and unique shop options from the Are You Kidding sight. This pair can be purchased for only ten dollars, and it goes directly to their autism charity.
LOVE IT!1!1!1!1!
1. I love it because it shows that you don’t have to wait until you’re older to explore your dreams and turn them into a reality.
2. Cancer is such a noble cause and these kid, at such a young age, saw a problem and took it upon themselves to try and fix it.
3. They found something they were passionate about, and that’s what drove them even more.
Overall I just love the message this business sends. These 2 young kids entered the corporate world and beat their odds. Now they support cancer patients so that they might also beat the odds.
Absolutely love it. Excuse me while I go buy some socks!1!1!1!1
I LOVE this idea! I almost wrote my blog on Sebastian because I was inspired by his creativity and I loved that he has accomplished all that he has at 7 years old! Sebastian should act as an example for us all. It does not matter how old you are, all you need is a great idea and the drive to see it through.
I think that Sebastian and his brother should truly be commended for the work they are doing, as they are contributing to a cause afflicting millions of people. On top of that alone, they are helping to solve the great problems of cancer and autism through their passions, all at the age of seven. I think it is amazing to see that you can find your calling at any age; and you can do something that you love and can also make a difference in the world. These two kids are definitely challenging me to do more for the community, and less for myself.
I think this is such a cool and unique story! I love it because most of the time I think of people who fund cancer research of donate to cancer patients as really rich, older men, but these are just two young kids who are passionate about a cause and found a way to make it work. I think it is really cool also how simply the idea is! Selling funky socks isn’t a new idea but it is new how they donate all the proceeds to cancer patients, and that is very innovative and entrepreneurial.
