Howcast

Howcast is an internet website that provides instructional short-form how-to video and content that combines practical information with a myriad of film making techniques such as humor, claymation and animation. It was launched on February 6, 2008 by co-founders and former Google employees Jason Liebman, CEO, Daniel Blackman, COO, Sanjay Raman, VP of Product Development, and Darlene Liebman, VP of Production. Offices reside in both New York City and San Francisco serving a multitude of people.

More specifically, Howcast empowers people with engaging, useful how-to information wherever, whenever they need to know how. It provides video content which facilitates learning because answers are straightforward and demonstrations are clear. And with new videos being uploaded constantly, there’s always something new to discover.

The site was named one of the “50 Best Websites of 2008” by TIME Magazine and a top undiscovered web site by PC Magazine. In 2009, Howcast was nominated for two Webby Awards in the How-to and travel categories. In 2010, Howcast was nominated as the Finalist in Top 100 Websites of 2010 by PC Magazine and became the Finalist in New York City Hot 125.

With the many accolades Howcast has garnered since its start-date, and the purpose of the organization, the future for the company looks extremely promising and will lead to many lucrative opportunities!

PointlessBlog

At the age of 23, YouTube video blogger (vlogger) Alfie Deyes has already created an online empire. Having launched his extremely popular YouTube channel PointlessBlog in 2009 while still in school, self-employed Deyes has now garnered over five million subscribers across his YouTube channels. His PointlessBlogGames and PointlessBlogVlogs boast a remarkable one million and three million, respectively, subscribers.

Basing his content on the PointlessBlog around viral challenges and games, Deyes’ social media reach isn’t limited to YouTube either. His Facebook page has attracted more than 1.5 million fans, and his Instagram account five million followers.

Like any successful entrepreneur of the digital age, Deyes hasn’t solely relied on his virtual presence to achieve success. He has already released two books, both of which came with extra downloadable content, and has launched his own line of PointlessBlog merchandise which includes accessories ranging from hoodies and hats to phone cases and jewelry.

Funding Invoice

If operating a lucrative business at the impressive age of 23 doesn’t impress you, the fact that Aamar Aslam is currently running his third successful company – and has fitted in term to achieve an economics degree – should. Moreover, it was Aslam’s second venture, a chauffeur company which he headed up during his first two years at the University of Warwick, which inspired his latest venture Funding Invoice.

Funding Invoice is a rapidly-growing FinTech Company based in Woking, Surrey. It’s a peer-to-peer marketplace for invoice finance. Having accomplished a period of incubation at the University of Warwick, Funding Invoice launched as a spinout company of the university in October 2015 and has ever since provided over 3 million euros worth of finance to some of the UK’s most ambitious and innovative companies. Historically, the corporate world has been very reliant on banks for funding which can be hard when banks are unwilling to lend. Funding Invoice offers a new take on an old method of funding your business. They’ve taken factoring and invoice discounting, removed some of the inefficiencies, and built an online platform where businesses can raise fast and flexible finance.

Given the fact that the financial world is booming and presenting many opportunities to take advantage, the future for this company surely seems bright!

Bumble – Whitney Wolfe

Co-founder of Tinder, CEO of Bumble Whitney Wolfe founded the company soon after she parted ways with Tinder. Wolfe believed Tinder was too fowl and vulgar for a ‘dating site’. In response, she sued Tinder for sexual discrimination and harassment and settled for just over $1 million in September of 2014. Amidst the the media attention encompassing the lawsuit, acquaintance and Badoo founder and CEO Andrey Andreev reached out to Wolfe via email, and the two set up a meeting. Andreev suggested she get back into the dating space, and together they recruited fwlloe Tinder departees Chris Gulczynski and Sarah Mick to launch Bumble. Furthermore, Bumble officially launched three months after the assemble in December 2014.

Bumble is a location-based social and dating app which facilitates communication between intrigued users. In heterosexual matches, the app permits only women to start a chat with their male matches, while in same-sex matches either party can initiate the conversation. If a reply isn’t received within 24 hours, the match disappears.

So how it works… users are required to log in Bumble via Facebook. Information the user’s Facebook account is used to build a profile with photos and basic information, including the user’s college, job, etc.

Key features include the ability to favorite conversations, to sort conversations, to send photo messages, and to swipe, which enables users to “like” potential matches by swiping right and to swipe left to continue on their search.

As an up and coming company, Bumble diversifies itself in a way that could pose a serious threat to its main competitor, Tinder.

Paperless post

Paperless Post was founded in 2009 by Alexa and her brother at the age of 23 and 25, respectively, on the idea that people would use the internet to send wedding invites. It is an e-commerce company focusing on design-driven online and printed greetings, invitations, birth announcements, etc. The company is partnered with leading fashion designing companies including kate spade new york, Kelly Wearstler, and Oscar de la Renta. The company is based in New York City and so far they have secured $6.3 million in funding and brought it to profitability in 2010. In November 2011, e-card competitor Evite created a copycat product that copied many of Paperless Post’s designs. Industry backlash caused Evite to withdraw their new product from the market for over a year. Soon after, Paperless Post partnered with leading stationery company Crane & Co. to produce the first collection of hybrid online-offline wedding suites. These designs are available online as well as on fine cotton paper with engraving and letterpress. To date, the company has raised nearly $12.4 million in capital.

Today the company is continuing to grow as they bring the formal and personalized feel of offline communication to people with the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the online world.

FEED

FEED is a non-profit organization that has had a major impact on the world in the past few years by providing over 50 million meals to those impoverished worldwide. The idea is straight forward, FEED manufactures and sells reusable bags that resemble feed fags with half of the proceeds going towards supplying food for the hungry.

Lauren Bush and Ellen Gustafson co-founded the company in 2007 and recently established a partnership with the United Nations World Food Program and are pushing forward by producing more unique bags for people to purchase. Aside from bags, bracelets, backpacks, t-shirts and other things at the online store.

Ever since the company was launched, both have experienced much success. FEED projects has donated over 87 million meals to date through the sale of products and fundraising activations. With world hunger continuing to bolster in its rates, companies like FEED will provide those with the necessary everyday needs that otherwise wouldn’t reach them.
