Erik Finman

Erik Finman is 19 years old and already taking on huge projects and current issues. Erik is known as the youngest bitcoin millionaire. At the young age of 12, he bought $1,000 worth of bitcoin, he later sold that for around $100,000 and used those funds to start his company Botangle. This company assists in helping students to find personalized tutoring. Among other big projects that Erik is working on, including a project at NASA, he is building a new school and is working to make a big change in the American school system.

I can relate well to the work that Erik is doing in regard to the American school system. As someone who has struggled a lot in school myself, I definitely feel that change is needed in many areas. Tutoring was a huge part of my education that I needed so that I could stay on track with my peers, without it I would not be at the level of education I am today. Being able to give students tutoring and education that is catered to their needs is so important.

Through Erik’s history of buying and selling bitcoin, we can see that he is comfortable with taking risks and his efforts have paid off. Risk is important to being an entrepreneur and an aspect that I am currently working on myself.

Langston Whitlock – SAFETRIP

Langston Whitlock is a young entrepreneur who has developed a ridesharing app called, SAFETRIP that allows users to have access to medical transport. These rides can be requested in different forms such as a ride in advance or at the moment when you need it. It also has an important feature that allows users to select if the ride is an EMT (Emergency Medical Transport) or if it is a NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transport). Whitlock gives customers different options for paying for rides which even includes using insurance for the ride.

This is an awesome service to provide for those who need transportation to and from medical buildings and services. The transportation offered by some medical groups can be a terribly large expense and many people do not have an option besides paying the fee. I really think so of the greatest ventures are those that set out to serve others. People also trust the business more and want to invest in it when it is honest and service-oriented. This is evident through the $2 million in funding that Whitlock has received as a result.

I see this business as a great innovation of an already existing market and business idea. The rideshare industry has been a really great resource for people all over the country. SAFETRIP targets a specific niche that is in need of transportation dedicated to those with delicate medical needs. I believe entrepreneurs do their best work when looking outwardly, to have an impact on other people’s lives in a positive way. When focused on how to create a money machine entrepreneurs can miss the actual issue they are trying to solve and market to.

Paloma Burgos

Paloma Burgos is the founder and CEO of her company Lavande de la Paloma, her company produces soaps made with lavender. Paloma was inspired to build her business through her learning about all the different uses of lavender and because of how easy it is to grow the plant since it does not require a lot of water to thrive. Paloma uses her business to reach those who are in medical need, all of her company’s profits go towards medical missions in countries such as, the Philippines, Guatemala, Jamaica, and Uganda. Paloma uses the profits to send needed vitamins to those who do not have access to them. Paloma truly shows the entrepreneurial spirit by seeing a problem and solving it because it is a need and a pain, not because there is a potential profit.

For many, the entrepreneurial mind is seen as looking for the best way to make a profit usually through odd means. However, we know that this is not the case and Paloma displays this very well. The entrepreneur of course cannot sell a product that no one wants or thinks that they need, so the entrepreneur must be attentive to listening and watching for pain. When pain is discovered, especially if it involves something that the entrepreneur is passionate about, they get to work coming up with an innovative way of developing a solution. Paloma was able to create a product that people wanted and that was naturally made and also served a greater cause of serving those in need. As an entrepreneur, she looked to serve and solve pain and dedicated her entire company to serving this cause.

As entrepreneurs, it can be tempting and easy to look only at the potential ventures that will deliver on profit. However, we discover that when that is the only true motivator for an entrepreneur it becomes difficult to truly give your best effort to something that does not see much passion. Our goal should be to look to serve those who have pain and passionately search for ways to solve that pain.

Seizing opportunity – Willow Tufano

Willow Tufano

One of the biggest parts of being an entrepreneur is looking for and taking advantage of opportunities. Willow Tufano is a great example of an entrepreneur who took advantage of an opportunity that she saw coming out of a problem. When Willow was 14 years old, a recession hit Florida, causing houses that usually sold for upwards of $100,000 were selling for less than $15,000 at auctions. With the help of a family who had experience in real estate, Willow decided to take a risk and take advantage of the opportunity of low-priced real estate, she bought a house. After doing some work on the house, Willow made the home available to rent for $700 a month. She was then to make back what she spent in just over a year and a half.

Willow capitalized on an amazing opportunity she saw coming out of a bad situation. Willow was able to gain a lot of experience in real estate and make a really good profit because of her willingness to take a risk and seize opportunities. Risk analysis is an essential skill for entrepreneurship, Willow was able to seize the opportunity at hand because of her ability to take into account the possible reward in light of the potential risk. Risk-analysis and seizing opportunities are both skills that I am working on myself, it is a terrible feeling to realize you missed out on an amazing opportunity because I was scared to step out and try doing something outside my comfort zone. Willow is an example of the possible reward for taking risks.

Large companies like Amazon and Google have come alongside Sanil to help provide resources for the company that is directed to students which include business to business assistance. Sanil has garnered over $1 million with his team of 12 and has helped almost 1,000 students with his company.

Sanil has created an amazing tool for young entrepreneurs, there are so many young entrepreneurs with wonderful ideas. However, not many students have the resources or knowledge to get through all the legal paperwork and processes needed to get started on sharing their mission with others. This is a wonderful example of innovation, Sanil saw a gap that needed to be filled. He developed a company that provided a service for students that wasn’t offered anywhere else and made it accessible.

An entrepreneurial trait seen in Sanil is that his motivation was not found in profit. He started a nonprofit venture to help students launch their own nonprofit ventures. We see that Sanil’s motivation is found in service to others and seeking to push others toward success. Sanil presents a model for entrepreneurs starting any venture, what is your motivation? Sanil created a service that truly served its purpose, opening the door for entrepreneurship in young students.

Young Entrepreneurs – Brandon Boynton – The BullyBØX

Brandon Boynton

One of the biggest issues that have faced students for decades is the problem of bullying. Bullying is an issue that schools have worked hard to combat in many different ways, some have found adequate solutions while other schools still struggle to figure out just how to put a stop to bullying. Sometimes the bullies can’t be stopped because those who are bullied aren’t willing to come out and say who the bully is. Brandon Boynton, a successful young entrepreneur has created a new way to help combat bullying in schools. The BullyBox is an online platform that can anonymously get students in contact with school administrators to report bullying. Being bullied in school himself Brandon wanted to help students escape the pain he felt from bullying.

For some entrepreneurs, their drive is inspired by personal trauma experienced, this is what pushed Brandon to create such a successful product. One of the great things about The BullyBox is that it is anonymous, it is hard for many students to go to the school administrators to point out who it is that is bullying them this platform helps bullied students feel safe in standing up for themselves. The platform also encourages others to stand up for those being bullied, Brandon wanted the application to be used not only for those being bullied but those who saw what was happening and could help put a stop to bullying behavior.

Brandon Boynton hit spot on, one of the most important parts of developing a product and business, looking for pain and developing a solution. Bullying was a pain he knew existed not only because of how much it is talked about in school but because he had experienced it himself. It took a clear and present pain and developed a product to help alleviate it. The BullyBox is now being used in many different schools across the US.
