Touch of Entrepreneurship?

Have you ever wanted that fancy house? With things looking straight out of a modern design book. How have you wondered how to get a house, car, apartment with that kind of look. That’s exactly what Jerry Hum thought.

In 2010, Jerry Hum wanted modern, designer looking things for himself. He wanted it at an affordable price. At that time it seemed impossible. So instead of giving up, he created a new way for men like himself to afford that designer look. In 2014, he created Touch of Modern.

Touch of Modern was started by Jerry Hum and two other co-founders. The start was hard as platforming a new business that was strictly e-commerce is difficult. You see, Jerry Hum had the idea in 2010 and through work and speaking with investors and banks they were bale to work out enough funding to officially launch in 2014. They got seed funding in 2010, 3 million dollars in 2013, and in 2014 were able to get 14 million dollars worth of funding.

Since there official launch Touch of Modern has done everything they set out to do. They have millions of users a year flock to there site to looking for that one idea that will change their life. They studied how to interact with people and how to properly advertise. Today the company is worth over 15 million dollars. Its a touch of what to come for e-commerce.

Changing the Workplace

In his young late twenties, Sam Schillace was a software designer that wanted to do more. Growing up in the workplace he understood that work need to be done more efficiently. In the year 2006, sitting as a young man in an office, Sam was forced to work on documents that were emailed to him and that was it.

Same wanted to change that. He wanted to be able to create a platform that would enable people to work on it at one. Being a young web entrepreneur, he had the tools around him to get it done but needed to improve on what was already there. ‘Word processors today were invented 20 years ago, when the endpoint of the document was usually print, so they were very focused in that direction,’ Schillace said in a 2018 interview. This shows his view point as he wanted to create something more.

Writley was born in 2006, The ability for an individual to not store data, documents or more onto there hard drive or disk, but enable an individual to have them somewhere different. This somewhere was different, it was the cloud. Using brand new technology of that day and age he used it as the missing link for his new creation. Writley became a website where anyone with sharing privileges could edit a document at any time from any where.

This idea revolutionized the workplace, schooling and more. It has enabled so many people to share project seamlessly and  today there are hundreds of thousands of terabytes of documents uploaded. It has changed the way the world has worked entirely.  Today you know it as google docs.

The Imposter Among Us

The ability to chase money is common in todays society. Everyone is looking for the very next get rich quick schemes. Skills and traits can land you the jobs that you dream about to make great money. Money is the driver of most choices in the world. But what if you say no to the money. Instead, say yes to the grind, the long road, the bad days and try to chase your dreams.

The entrainment industry is a money making industry. The video game industry especially. Every young programmers dream that wants to work in the video game industry is to work for a big named studio. Studios like Treyarch developing the next generation of first person shooters to Ubisoft creating the next great open world. For Forest Willard, Marcus Bromander and Amy Liu, this was not the case.

These creators had different plans. They had a love for the ideology process for creating games that are small but entertaining to the users. They wanted to add their own spin on what a video game could be. Remotely meeting, Marcus Bromander brought these three creators together after they all graduated from Oregon State and founder there small indie video game company InnerSloth in 2015. They decided that it was their goal to create a video game their way.

This small indie company had very small success through the first four years. They traveled the country to video game conventions such as PAX where they could see what other small creators were trying to create. This was a huge source of inspiration. From 2015 to 2019 they were able to have some small success in the games that they created. Most small indie games sold for cheap and it get their company going. This included some games such as a 2018 creation Among Us. You may have heard of it. In 2020 Among Us is the most downloaded game and is up for awards such as Game of the Year. A small video game company, founded on ideals that 3 people wanted to bring back fun to video games and do it in a unique way, now have created the #1 video game in the world. As of September 16th the game have 95 million downloads worldwide. This was truly pure innovation of simplest and passionable form.

Kevin Song – Saving Small Businesses

Kevin Song is a young entrepreneur who created a way to save small business without having landlords or real estate get in the way. As a young kid in Brookland he say his parents store get taken down and sold all because of a landlord hassling them to much. Watching his parents have to pack up the small grocery store that they spend 20 years operating was too much for him. That was the switch for Song and what drove him to start looking out for the little guys in the economy.

 

At the age of 26 he started WithCo. The companies goal was to reach out and help small businesses keep their stores by enabling them to by their properties. He did this by giving local businesses that qualified zero interest loans to buy their property to make the land and the building theirs. This may seem like a pricey endeavor, which it was, but Kevin Songs was able to surround himself with good and hardworking people. People like Taylor Savage, his cofounder. They together were able to make a positive change.

With the team now working they were able to reach out to big investors to help them along their journey. The company is still in stealth but has raised 4 million dollars from investors like Founders Fund to help give small businesses what they need to protect themselves. They enable small business to purchase their property to combat gentrification and from there keep small Business America alive. During this years pandemic alone Kevin Songs has been able to save countless businesses up and down the east coast.

Benjamin Kicks : The biggest Sneakerhead

Benjamin Kapelushnik is a young entrepreneur, age 20, that lead the push for young kids into one of the fastest growing fashion industries in todays day and age. Using social media and skills of networking he was able to build a brand for himself that is now worth around one million dollars.

Benjamin Kapelushnik was 16 years old when he started his shoe business. At this time he was attending Fort Lauderdale Florida and living with his family. His love of shoes began when he was in middle school when his mother bought him a pair of Nike sneakers to wear for school. That changed Ben’s life and start his love for shoes and pushing him along a career path that he is now on today.

When his love for shoes started, he began studying the shoe industry. He studied how the side resale industry works, how the major brands handled there shoes, to how to acquire the best of the best kicks. He spent his bar mitzvah money to buy several more pairs and then began going to sneaker conventions to get real life exposer to the market. His first major move came in eight grade when he bought LeBron X MVPs for 400 dollars and then flipped them for 4,000 dollars. He was only able to acquire those through an understanding of how the business works.

After this huge profit for himself in the eight grade it became clear to his parents that this was a profitable avenue for him and so he dove head first into building his brand within the sneaker industry. He was able to use his connections to meet DJ Khaled (Famous DJ, musician, and social media influencer) and was able to do business with him and for there developed a mutual friendship with Khaled. Ben was able to network with Khaled and from there was introduced to more celebrities and famous people to do business with. This enabled him to do business with other social media influencers, to professional athletes, to musicians and more. The networking he did allowed his social media to boom and now today has over 2 million followers across the social media sphere. Today he worth just over one million dollars and he networks span to all corners of the America from famous people to the average person providing them with the necessary shoes to go with that perfect outfit.

David Chen – Bringing Esports to College

David Chen, age 43, a father, investor, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur that has worked on over 500 transactions with Fortune 500 companies now tackles his newest project; bringing esports to the college and provide students a new route to get to college as well as solidifying sports at the college level professionally and successfully by launching the NACL (North American Collegiate League).

David Chen has been an entrepreneur since his college dropout at the age of 20. David Chen has wanted to make a difference in so many aspects of life from clothing brands to now mentoring young individuals about life to show them how to approach life positively. Now wants to help individuals with a new way to get to college through video games. In my conversations with him, he was crediting his entrepreneurship to his drive. He started from nothing and today has a team active around the clock constantly working. In his own words, he only takes one day off a month.

David Chen has been a prominent figure in the esports community as he is an investor and chairman of FaZe Clan which holds over 30 million followers worldwide and is worth over 10 million dollars. The esports community is one of the biggest growing markets in the world and David Chen recognized that and his trying to tap into the greatest demographic of video game players worldwide, college students. As the NACL webpage describes it as an “unexplored niche in the esports market”.

The NACL is an America-based non-profit esports and entertainment organization that hosts video game tournaments and league play for universities and colleges with scholarship prizes to help the student and/or the players. David Chen and the NACL incorporated broadcasting into their business to stream the most engaging games and create personable content with the collegiate athletes to create an avenue for sponsors to keep the league running. Also, David Chen has an incredible trait of speaking and selling ideas as he has been able to get ambassadors to this brand such as ex-professional athletes such as Brian Urlacher (Chicago Bears linebacker) to Esport pros such as Pavan Lakhat (Professional Madden player). David Chen can find niches within industries and surround himself with people and organizations to turn his idea into a reality with little to no investment from himself.
