At the age of 10, George Nissen was a young and passionate child. He was deeply invested in gymnastics as a child, and he was especially good at tumbling for his school team. He would meet with his team regularly at his local YMCA. Not only was he passionate about gymnastics, he loved to swim. He did several performances and was quite good in this field. George Nissen completed high school at the age of 16 and wanted to invent a product related to jumping and diving. He wanted to create a product that could make one jump. George used scraps lying around in his parents garage and even used garbage he found from dumpsters to create his idea. The plan was to create what is now called a trampoline. Once he completed his invention, he wanted to see how people would react to it. So, during his summer job he brought his trampoline out for kids to play (Lemels N-MIT).
Later on, he obtained a degree in business and continued to travel and perform gymnastics. He even used his trampoline with his three skilled acrobatic friends and performed in several states. He performed in Texas, Mexico, and very quickly he was spreading awareness of his product. He even came up with the word “Trampoline” which is derived from the word, “el trampolin” which was a trademark for his product. George and his friends showed the trampoline to several schools, and eventually, there were a few orders. George found other uses for his product and also targeted the army for training. He eventually joined the Navy, and used his product for training, but also made games for entertainment. George Nissen is an excellent example of a young entrepreneur that focused on what he was passionate about. He found a market for his product, and he also found ways to make different uses for his product. He will go down in history as a very successful young entrepreneur (Lemels N-MIT).
