Langston Whitlock – SAFETRIP

Langston Whitlock created his first messaging app at age 12 and then went on to be a co-founder of another app/business called SAFETRIP. SAFETRIP is an app that is basically “uber for ambulances”. It is a healthcare based rideshare app where users can schedule rides for non-emergency medical transportation or emergency medical transportation. Users pay for the rides either through their insurance, debit or credit cards. This app has been revolutionary for the users in Atlanta where the app is based, saving them time and money just from scheduling their medical transportation through Whitlock’s app.

Langston created his messaging app at age 12 to try and contact his absent father. This got Langston working with code and developing his technology skills that would eventually lead and guided him to eventually assist in the creation of SAFETRIP. Once created, SAFETRIP had over $2 million in funding, which is largely due to Langston’s technologies.

Langston did not have a father in his young life, and it pushed him to be creative and innovative and try to find a way to contact his father. His experience with coding his first app prepared him for creating SAEFTRIP in the future. Langston saw his experience and skills as a calling from God, calling him to pursue what he excelled at, his technology skills, and use them to make a difference.

The other co-founder Ja’Nese Jean, saw military veterans who could not afford or who didn’t have access to health care and wanted to help them. She brought in Langston because of his expertise and his passion for technology. Together they created SAFETRIP that is available on IOS and Android stores and is based in Georgia.

Langston is a great example of a young entrepreneur who found his passion and talents at an early age, and who used his experience in his childhood to later develop a great app that makes a true difference in the community he lives in today. He combined his skills and experiences, all of which prepared him and led him to the business he is now the CIO of.

Caroline and Isabel Bercaw – Sisters Making Bath Bombs

Can you imagine working with you siblings and creating a business when you’re only 10 or 11 years old? I personally was not thinking of a new product and creating a business at that age with my little sister. But Caroline and Isabel Bercaw did just that. These two sisters started this all with a science project that they did together where they made their own bath bombs. They were obsessed with their creation and the fun colors and smells that they could incorporate, and from there decided that they could start a business with their homemade bath bombs.

They first sold their homemade bath bombs for a local art fair near their hometown in Minneapolis and on the first day they sold out of all the 150 they made. The next day at the fair they had tried to make as many as possible but sold out again. And from there a business was born.

With both girls still in school their parents took an active role in running the business, and today is a family run a very successful bath bomb business; so successful that the parents were able to quit their other jobs to focus on the bath bombs business.

Da Bomb Bath Fizzers is the name of their business and can be found in stores such as Target and Ulta Beauty. Sales have been good and steady, with the company making around 500,000 bath bombs a month. Caroline and Isabel knew they needed to make their homemade bath bombs different from their competitors, and they came up with having small surprises inside the bath bomb that would be discovered as it fizzes in the bath.

Caroline and Isabel are a great example of entering a market that already existed and making it better and different. Putting little surprises in the bath bombs was an innovation that gave them an advantage and helped them standout from their competitors.

Mia Monzidelis and her Power Pony Toy

Could you imagine developing a new toy idea at age 5 and having it turn into a product that is now sold in stores like Target. Well, that’s exactly what Mia Monzidelis did. Mia lives in Long Island, N.Y., which is not an ideal place for having a horse live with you, however, she created a toy that would be just like having your pet horse live with you.

At age 10, Power Pony is the toy that Mia came up with. It is a powered toy horse with a saddle for kids to sit and ride on. Mia’s dad helped her figure out the details for the new toy and was a major supporter of her new innovation. The toy has a ZuME engine and can connect to iOS through an app making the toy very interactive. The toy has fun sounds and light features that make the toy even more attractive for kids. Once Power Pony was launched, Mia was invited to be on the Kelley Clarckson Show and introduced her company to world.

The 2021 holiday season really helped the company take off and Mia sold 5,000 units. That year after having so much success, she donated $5,000 to Garden City, L. I.’s Family & Children’s Association.  Power Pony now has multiple versions of the toy on their website which is helping the brand expand their customer base. So not only did this young innovator find some great success with her new toy, but she is also giving back to the community with the profits she is making.

Mia took her love for horses and ponies and ended up creating a brand new and innovative toy horse that was unlike any other toy horse on the market. With the engine inside of it, riding on the toy is extremely similar to riding around on a pony. It is Mia’s hope that Power Pony will continue to grow and be successful, a toy that children love and can have so much fun playing with, just as she loves it too.

Moziah Bridges – The Stylish Entrepreneur

When you can’t find anything to wear in your style, make your own. That’s at least what Moziah Bridges did, which led him to create his own home-made bow ties. Moziah is from Memphis and started “Mo’s Bows” in 2011 at age 9. He learned to sew and started making his own colorful bowties, all made with the leftover scraps from his grandmother.

Once Moziah started selling his home-made bows, he was able to start hiring tailors to expand. Eventually, Mo’s Bows made an appearance on Shark Tank in season 5 of the show and Daymond John, one of the sharks, took interest in the business. Moziah struck a royalty deal and Daymond became a mentor to Moziah. Mo’s Bows has since expanded from just selling bowties and now also makes neckties, pocket squares, and other fashionable products.

Mo’s Bows continued to grow and had features in Forbes magazine, on the Today Show, and on the Steve Harvey Show. There have been collaborations with the NBA and Neiman Marcus, and Mo’s Bows partnered with Robert Stewart Inc. With all this growth and success, Moziah was able to start a charity in 2012; Go Mo! Summer Camp Scholarship Fund. The charity’s main goal is to help the children of Memphis be able to go to summer camps.

Now in 2024, the company has continued to grow, and Moziah is set on expanding his business even further. He entered Memphis Fashion Week Fashion Show as an emerging fashion designer. Moziah’s mission “is to make you look and feel your most stylish and confident by adding a bit of elegant whimsy to your wardrobe.” His creativity and drive for success has really allowed him to succeed, and his experiences thus far will continue to help find even more success in the future. Key takeaway from Moziah’s story: you can have success at a very young age and having a good idea, no matter how small, can grow into something much bigger.
