Bark n Borrow

In 2014, Liam Berkley created a unique app called bark n borrow. As a resident in Los Angeles, he saw that most landlords are against their owners having pets. This app gives a simple fix to dog lovers that are experiencing this problem. Bark n Borrow allows for owners and pet sitters to easily communicate. For people that aren’t allowed to own a dog, this gives them an opportunity to still be with a dog without ownership. The app requires for users to create a profile of their dogs as well as themselves, so people can find exactly what they are looking for.

Liam’s app is very inspirational for all entrepreneurs. He saw a simple need that most do not think of, and he found a solution. This type of thinking is necessary to be a successful entrepreneur.

Caine’s Arcade

Caine Monroy is just 9 years old and he has already started his own business. Messing around one day in his father’s auto parts store, Caine designed his own arcade game out of a cardboard box. His arcade game quickly became the talk of the town as TV reporters and young kids flocked to the store to see the creative idea of this young kid. His pricing strategy has brought a lot of attention to his business as well. Its $1 to play the game four times and $2 to play the game 500 times. He also sells T-shirts that say Caine’s Arcade on them for $15. There are no numbers that indicate how much his actual business has made, but in donations alone he has raised over $212,000.

This story is very inspiring as Caine basically started his business out of nothing. It shows that people don’t need tons of money and lots of materials to make an impact on the rest of the world.

Are You Kidding

Sebastian Martinez is only 8 years old and he is already the CEO of his own company. At a young age Sebastian had a passion for collecting bright and colorful socks with cool designs on them. His mother saw his creativity and suggested that he design his own socks. With the help of his older brother, who is only two years older than him, Sebastian started designing socks. The result of this was the company Are You Kidding.

In its first year, the company made $15,000 selling its socks. At the time Sebastian was only 5 years old! It is remarkable that someone that young can create such a successful business right away. Sebastian did not stop here. In the next year sales were tripled and the company partnered with companies like the American Cancer Society and the Live Like Bella Foundation and helped to raise over $3,000 dollars for them.

The boys have continued to expand their brand making socks for adults and specific charities. The mission behind the brand is to give back to these foundations, so people know when they are buying from Are You Kidding, their money is also going to a good cause. This truly is an inspiring story, and these boys have a set a high standard for young entrepreneurs around them.

Nay Games

In 2010, Robert Nay, a 14 year old, invented a mobile game called “Bubble Ball” and launched it in the Apple app store. Nay’s app was downloaded over 1 million times in the first two weeks of its launch. Within that time it passed “Angry Birds” as the number one downloaded game in the app store. This may all seem pretty incredible, but the most inspiring thing was that previously Robert had no coding experience. Tired of playing the same games over and over again, Robert decided that he was just going to make his own game. He went to his local library and researched how to do coding for apps. Within just one month he was able to come up with 4,000 lines of coding to create his physics-based puzzle game.

As a young kid enjoying all the benefits of creating a successful app, you may think that Robert would have stopped here. This was not the case. Robert has continued to create new games off of his “Bubble Ball” game including “Bubble Ball Pro” and “Bubble Ball Curiosity”. Not only has he created games off of his first one, he has created an app that can help young students learn sight words and spelling.

The story is truly inspiring  that a kid as young as Robert was able to something this large without having any experience in his field. This shows that with all the technology we have, it is possible for anyone to set goals and work to achieve them. Robert shows his innovation skills in a field that is being changed everyday, and is very hard to crack into. This did not stop him from working hard to achieve his goal. I think myself and others can all take something from this young innovator in that if we have an interest in something, but don’t know much about it, it is still possible for us to make a difference.
