Inky’s ability to relate with and motivate athletes, businesspeople, and all others who hear his motivational speeches via in person or his podcast make him both exemplary and unique.
  • What drives them? “Unfortunately, on September 9th, 2006, he sustained a life threatening, career ending injury that paralyzed his right arm and hand. From that day to present day Inky has had a burning desire to use his situation and experiences to add value to people’s lives.” This is written on Inky Johnson’s website. Clearly, the ability to use his situation to motivate and benefit others is what drives him.
  • What makes their idea or business model interesting? Inky Johnson’s business model is interesting for a few reasons. According to his website, “Inky’s gift of being an effective communicator has allowed him to crossover into different industries. He is a leader called upon by leaders. A partial list of his clients includes Chick-fil-A, Dell Technologies, Aflac Insurance, Cooks Pest Control, State Farm, Coca Cola, Bank of America, The University of Alabama, The University of Texas, New York Knicks, New England Patriots, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.” His ability to use his athletic experience – specifically his injury – to relate to not only athletic teams, but also businesses and corporations is interesting. He has turned a traumatic life experience into a business for himself, as he is a highly coveted public speaker.

He wasn’t necessarily “qualified” to enter public speaking. Yet, with his avid ability to adapt and learn from every circumstance, he has shown tremendous entrepreneurial skills.
  • How are they innovating? Inky Johnson innovated by evolving the world of public speaking. Although not everyone will have the chance of experiencing a physical injury on the football field, everyone will encounter adversity. “The one thing we all have in common is that we will encounter adversity, but we have to decide how we respond to it.” He took one event and has monopolized an entire niche of an industry.

Lily Born — The Kangaroo Cup

  • What is exemplary or unique about these young entrepreneurs? Lily Born is a unique entrepreneur because her business solved a very niche, specific problem within her family. She dug into something she was passionate about.
  • What drives them? Lily’s need to help her grandfather with Parkinson’s is what drove her. Out of love she was able to develop a solution to her grandfather’s struggles.
  • What makes their idea or business model interesting? Their business model is interesting for a few reasons. She saw a unique way to modify cups for a select population, which gave this market a creative and useful product. People don’t ever do anything extraordinary with cups. They sort of have one purpose, and other than different styles, they stay the same. Lily was able to create a whole new genre of this product that would serve people all over the world.
  • What entrepreneurial traits do they demonstrate? According to an article, “To perfect her design, Born and her dad traveled across the world to the ceramics capital of China, JingDeZhen. There, they were able to refine the models, find a manufacturer, and prepare for a production run of ceramic cups, which come in plastic, too.” By doing this, she showed her desire to learn from the best and adapt her product from the top of the market.
  • How are they innovating? Lily Born and her business Imagiroo innovated by creating a new niche in the cup market. Her product, the kangaroo cup, has three legs and is made to prevent spills. After her grandfather, who had Parkinson’s Disease, kept spilling his drinks, she knew there had to be a way to fix this problem. Thus came the creation of the kangaroo cup.
  • How do they specifically inspire you and help you in your own thinking about entrepreneurship and innovation? She inspires me and helps me in my own thinking because instead of focusing on the problem, she only saw the solution. This reminds me of scripture, specifically with the David and Goliath story. David spoke about God nine times and only about Goliath twice. One could say that David was focused on his vision, not the circumstance. The same applies to Lily Born.
  • What principles have you learned? Lily is a great example of what happens when you see a problem as a potential solution. We say no pain, no sale a lot in class. She experienced the pain of her grandfather, and through it, was able to create a product that would not only help her grandfather, but anyone who struggles with spills.

Moziah Bridges – Mo’s Bows

So, with the help of my granny, I started fashioning my own bow ties.” Clearly, his desired need of fashionable bow ties drove him in creating his business.
  • What makes their idea or business model interesting? What started as a ‘baby business’ of him designing bow ties in his grandma’s kitchen has now blossomed into an internationally-recognized business. Bow ties are just the beginning, as the business also sells distinctive pocket squares and neckties. He started with a single passion and continued to develop his business, finding where he wasn’t hitting the market and expanding.
  • What entrepreneurial traits do they demonstrate?  On the Mo’s Bows website, they say that to be successful you must, “Believe in yourself; Take the Opportunity to give back, Work hard/study hard; and have Support from friends and family.” Not only does he embody these traits, he also embodies determination and passion.

  • How do they specifically inspire you and help you in your own thinking about entrepreneurship and innovation? Moziah’s bravery, commitment, and passion are inspiring. To be able to create a business at 9 years old that would be featured on The Steve Harvey ShowThe Today ShowGood Morning America20/20CBS This Morning, the Disney Channel, and Shark Tank is remarkable.
  • What principles have you learned? I have learned that when you are passionate about something and put your mind to it, anything is possible. In terms of principles, Moziah is a great example of finding a need and creating a niche market around it. It is also a great example of two of the MODES, anticipation and articulation.

Sean Clifford Entrepreneur – By Ayden Gutierrez

  • What is exemplary or unique about these young entrepreneurs? Sean Clifford is the quarterback of the Penn State Nittany Lions. His entrepreneurship is unique because he is not just an entrepreneur, but he’s also a college student and college athlete. The fact that he is able to excel as a student, as a football player, and as an entrepreneur is incredible.
  • What drives them? In an article published on ESPN, Clifford was quoted saying, “It’s the agency that I was looking for that I couldn’t find. It’s for the players, by the players. I wanted to do something to leave even more of a legacy than just on the field. And I thought that this was kind of the way that I wanted to go.” In this quote, it’s clear to see what drives Sean’s entrepreneurial efforts: the opportunity for players to help each other in the realm of Name, Image, and Likeness, and the opportunity to cement his legacy.
  • What makes their idea or business model interesting? Sean’s business model, Limitless NIL, is interesting because it is the first player-based organization to be created since Name, Image, and Likeness laws were passed. Sean Clifford founded the company on three pillars: talent representation, brand and content creation, and financial literacy. By signing with Limitless NIL, athletes will have access to aide in all three of these categories. Again, something that hasn’t been done in their field.
  • What entrepreneurial traits do they demonstrate? He embodies a hunger to solve problems from new angles. Sean embodies conventional wisdom, as he used his own personal experiences with signing NIL deals to organically create his business.
  • How are they innovating? On the Limitless NIL website, their message says, “Run by current and former college Athletes, Limitless seeks to help Student-Athletes build cutting-edge brands and business relationships designed for the World of NIL.” By composing their staff of former and current college athletes who have experienced the struggles of the NIL space, Sean and his colleagues are able to relate with these athletes on a level that nobody else can.
  • How do they specifically inspire you and help you in your own thinking about entrepreneurship and innovation? Sean and his company inspire me because they identified a massive need in the market and they attacked it. He also inspires me because as busy of a student athlete as he is, he went all-in on something he was passionate about as an entrepreneur. This shows that ANYONE can be an entrepreneur.
  • What principles have you learned? Sean is a great example of what happens when you are passionate and fully commit to something. I’ve learned to be brave, to continue to strive to help others and to share your experiences; you’ll never know who you can help!
