BizChair.com

Sean Belnick became an entrepreneur at the young age of fourteen. He is the mind behind the company of BizChair. He started his multi-million dollar company with an advertising budget of $500 and a web hosting budget of $100. With that small startup budget Belnick was able to create his website BizChair.com; an online store for business chairs. At a young age Belnick enjoyed selling on the internet via eBay. This source of enjoyment stemmed into an idea for an online business for office chairs that became a $50,000,000 company, which now offers other office and home furniture in addition to the office chairs. Belnick is an especially innovative entrepreneur, as he was able to create an incredible online business from an everyday piece of furniture. Chairs are not exactly new, so the fact that he was able create such an incredibly successful business is truly impressive, especially since he was only fourteen when he started out.

myYearbook

Catherine cook came up with the idea for myYearbook when she was only 15 years old. She created a digitized yearbook that was meant to aid in meeting new people. The idea was generated out of her and her brother’s struggle of meeting new people when moving to a new school. Creating an online interactive yearbook provided a new way for people to meet. Cook’s two brothers helped her make her vision come true, especially her oldest brother who helped fund the startup, and they are now multimillionaires. In order to add to their site myYearbook combined with ZenHex.com, for which users create quizzes. The merge brought more traffic to their site. In another attempt to attract people to their site, myYearbook signed with Cliffnotes to allow free study guides to any member of their site. My Yearbook became a great success attracting major advertisers such as Disney. The site extends even farther with online games and video chatting. The Cooks sold their company to a social network called QuePasa for one hundred million dollars. Since being bought by this company, the name has been changed to MeetMe. Catherine Cook is an incredible millennial entrepreneur, as she saw a unique opportunity to update something that had been the same for a very long time. Yearbooks are not new by any means, but creating an online version of one that helps others meet was by far a unique idea of its time.

RecMed

Taylor Rosenthal became an entrepreneur at the young age of 14 with his idea of a vending machine that dispenses first aid kit supplies, now known as RecMed. Rosenthal’s idea was generated during an eighth grade Young Entrepreneurship Academy class, for which he was working on generating an idea for a class project. As if becoming an entrepreneur at such a young age wasn’t enough, Rosenthal was also the youngest person ever to be invited to attend TechCrunch Disrupt and to be a CEO at Round House. The RecMed vending machines are meant to be located at sporting events, amusement parks, and any other location where first aid would likely be needed. Rosenthal received an order for one hundred of his RecMed vending Machines from Six Flags. Rosenthal’s machines are to be sold at a price of about $5,500, with additional available profit from restocking his machines. Taylor Rosenthal is very innovative because he was able to take something that has been around for a long time, a vending machine, and utilize it in order to fill a need that he saw, the need for easily accessible first aid supplies at sporting events and amusement parks. To top off the incredible achievements of Rosenthal, he also was the recipient of a $30,000,000 offer in exchange for his business. However, Rosenthal turned this offer down because he believes that he can improve his product and sell it for more than $50,000,000 before graduating.

Innovation in Dance

Amanda Taylor is a millennial entrepreneur who found an innovative way to make a dance business. The typical dance entrepreneur opens a studio, but Taylor’s endeavor was unique. Taylor started up the company DanceOn, which makes dance videos to new songs in order to help them gain popularity.  Some examples of songs made popular by this company are  “Watch Me (Whip/ Nae Nae), “Lean and Dab,” and “Hit the Quan.” Taylor was a musical theater major, and she worked as a dancer and choreographer manager before she quit that job and began her role as CEO of her company DanceOn. The business was launched in 2011, and it consists of a network of over 1,300 dance groups who are utilized in the creation of the dance videos. Madonna is a co-founder of this business. Taylor’s business was not only innovative in the dance world, but also in the music world, as it provided a new way to help songs gain popularity.

Taylor has more recently expanded in her business ventures by starting up a new company called Izo. Like DanceOn, Izo works to aid songs in gaining popularity, however it does not use dancing as its primary means of doing so.

Pilot Speech Translator

Andrew Ochoa is a millennial entrepreneur who found an innovative way to aid people in their everyday communication. Ochoa came up with an earpiece that translates speech into the wearer’s known language, breaking the language barrier between people. The Pilot Speech Translator translates through speech or through text. The wearer of the earpiece can hear the conversation translated into his or her own language, or translate by text through the Pilot Speech Translator app. This earpiece is an incredible innovation for the business world, because now people all over the world can hold a conversation with one another without being impeded by the language barrier. It also is an incredible tool to aid foreign exchange students, students learning another language, and world travelers. The business for this translator was founded in 2014 and is called Waverly Labs. Currently the number of languages that can be translated are limited, but the company has plans to add more. The earpiece serves as normal earbuds to play music as an additional feature. This is a great innovation because it can be marketed  to almost everyone. In a world surrounded by people from different countries this is a great new way to easily communicate with people we otherwise would have never spoken to.

Ochoa saw a communication barrier, decided it was a problem, and took action to solve that problem. This innovation showed me that everyday things we do (speaking) has room for innovation, if we simply take a step back and see things differently. When I first saw this new innovation, it made me think about the tower of Babel. God purposefully confused people’s language so that they would be unable to understand one another and would not think too much of their capabilities. Now a new innovation is trying to break the barrier that God created, which intrigues me.
