Nannies By Noa

Noa Mintz was just your average 13 year old middle school girl. Living in New York with younger siblings, her busy parents would often hire nannies to take care of them while they were at work. It bothered Noa that many of the nannies that they had would not interact with them. They would simply sit playing on their phones, and not interact with the children unless conflict occurred. At this point, Noa decided to take matters into her own hands. She started by interviewing a variety of nannies and hiring one for her siblings. Not long after, she began to hire nannies for family friends. This is when her company, Nannies by Noa, was born.

Nannies by Noa is a full-service childcare agency.  Through an extensive selection process, they hire nannies, and help to match them with families in need of nanny and babysitting services.  Her business has a network of 150 nannies and services over 190 clients in New York City. Nannies by Noa is known for making an estimated quarter of a million dollars in revenue.

It is so cool how a 13 year old girl can solve a problem like this. Noa has a unique perspective that adults don’t possess and can’t understand completely. This gives her a unique edge against other nanny agencies. It is inspiring how someone so young can come up with a solid business idea and become so successful.

Maddie Bradshaw: Snap Caps

Who says that age matters in entrepreneurship? There is no set time in our lives when we are able to come up with a brilliant idea better than another. Maddie Bradshaw, a ten year old with a dream, is proof of this. Beginning with a simple idea involving bottle caps, she created Snap Caps, a business that brings in $1.6 million a year.

Snap Caps is a company in which bottle caps are modified into jewelry items such as necklaces. Different designed bottle caps are interchangeable allowing the user to change bottle caps to fit their own unique design. It all began when Maddie was 10 years old. She wanted to decorate her locker, so her uncle gave her a bunch of old coke bottle caps which she glued magnets to and made into decorations. After seeing this, her friends caught on and began buying these handmade locker decorations from her. This was only the beginning for Maddie.

By age 13 Maddie had made her first million dollars. She had been selling these necklaces with the help of her mom and younger sister on Amazon.com as well as a variety of other US retail outlets. Aside from her business, Maddie was very interested in inspiring young entrepreneurs. She wrote a book entitled You Can Start a Business, Too  in response to many of her fans (young aspiring female entrepreneurs) emails.

As she became more well known in the business world, Maddie was then asked to make appearances on “The View” and “Shark Tank”. On Shark Tank, Maddie easily won the approval of the judges. They liked her business so much that she picked up three of the judges as investors, and an investment of  $300,000 in exchange for 30% equity in the business.

Maddie Bradshaw’s story is an inspiration to young entrepreneurs everywhere. She proved that age means nothing, and that ideas can come from anywhere. To learn more about Maddie, check out her business facebook page below!

MyYearBook:Catherine Cook

At the young age of 15, Catherine Cook and her brother came up with a great business idea.  Having just moved to a new school, they decided to flip through the yearbook in an attempt to meet other kids from their school using the only resource they had. While flipping through the pages, they realized how ineffective this method was. This got them thinking. What if they could somehow put the yearbook online so that they could socialize with the other kids?

So this is exactly what they did. With the help of their older brother, Geoff, a web entrepreneur, and his $250,000 investment, Catherine and her brother began their venture into the business world. Working with a team of developers in Mumbai, they were soon able to bring their idea to life. In April of 2005, Catherine and her brother were able to launch their website within their school. Aimed at high school students, this website allowed students to interact and meet online; taking fun quizzes and participating in ice breakers. Within the first week, myyearbook.com had its first 300 members. From there, their company grew rapidly.  In 2011, MyYearBook joined with Quepasa, a company that runs social networking sites aimed at Latinos, in a $100 million deal. This event completely changed the company. Today, Catherine’s older brother is the CEO, and Catherine is the Vice President of what is now known as MeetMe.com. MeetMe.com focuses specifically on the experience of people branching out and connecting with new people. They have become a more versatile site, catering to all ages, and leading the public market for social discovery in the US.

It is truly amazing how someone so young can come up with an idea so big. Catherine Cook is an inspiration to young entrepreneurs everywhere, showing how dedication and a little luck can take the simplest of ideas and turn them into a reality.
